Year 1/2 Learning Reflection
Weeks 1 & 2
Term 4

Welcome Back to Term 4!
What a wonderful start to Term 4! Students have settled back into classroom routines and expectations beautifully. It has been fantastic to see everyone return with such positive attitudes, enthusiasm and motivation towards their learning.
Our Year 1 students have also been working hard to adapt to some changes in our daily learning routines and have taken these changes in their stride! In Maths, students have begun exploring more challenging concepts, including adding and subtracting two-digit numbers. In Literacy, we have already enjoyed exploring two wonderful texts, Kind by Jess McGeachin and Migaloo the White Whale by Mark Wilson. We have also begun learning about persuasive writing and how we can use our opinions and reasons to convince others.
We are so proud of the effort students are putting into their learning and the growing confidence and independence they continue to demonstrate. We look forward to a busy and exciting final term filled with learning, growth and celebrations!

Students have settled back into routine and have been doing lots of amazing learning.

The Year 2s have been learning regrouping to solve subtraction problems. They have also been learning to tell the time using analogue and digital clocks. They have been practising reading times to the hour, half past, quarter past and quarter to, building their confidence through hands on activities. They have also been learning to write simple paragraphs. A paragraph is a group of sentences about one main idea. The students enjoy sharing their writing with a partner and giving each other feedback to help make their writing the best it can be.

Across Systemic Knowledge Grade 2 students have begun learning what biodiversity means and the features of living things. We have been out on a biodiversity walk around the school grounds, observing the different trees, plants, animals and insects in the gardens. Students have identified and labelled plant features and focused on the function of roots. We conducted an experiment to show how roots absorb water and transport it up the stalk through the xylum to the leaves, using celery and food colouring. Students wrote their predictions and then recorded their observations after the experiment.
