IPSSO Sport Report

Term 4, Weeks 3&4

Last week our school ventured out to Wollondilly Anglican College to play our third last round of the Summer IPSSO competition. This week our school played another away game to Broughton Anglican College.

Junior Oztag

Last saw St Gregory’s travel to Wollondilly Anglican for the next round of the Junior IPSSO Oztag competition. Wollondilly really turned up to play and shot out to a 5-0 lead. St Gregory’s hit back with a few late tries in the first half to go into halftime trailing 5-2. We could see this was our toughest game of the season. The second half began with St Gregory’s scoring 2 more quick tries to bridge the gap to 5-4. Each team went try for try with the match ending 9-8 in favour of Wollondilly and handing St Gregory’s their first loss of the season. St Gregory’s showed great fight and were very gracious in defeat.

This week saw St Gregory’s travel to Broughton Anglican College for the second last round of the Junior IPSSO Oztag competition. Off the back of their first loss of the season, the team were keen to begin the game strong and get on the front foot. St Gregory’s opened the game with a couple of quick tries thanks to some slick footwork from Connor Potts and great passing from Baxter Snushall. The second half began in similar fashion with Seth Obereigner, Noah Mckinnon, Baxter Snushall and Denham Tsagalas making some great breaks through the field which lead to a number of tries. St Gregory’s ended the game with a convincing victory 17-4 which gives them momentum heading into the final round and into the finals. Special mention must go to the female representatives (Alexandra Nothdurfter, Lucy Stewart, Olivia Jardine, Lily Harland, Zara Eva, Tessa Sabu Mandapam and Charlotte RIchards) of the team who showed great vision and determination in making great metres up the field and scoring 12 out of the 17 points. Next week’s game is at home against Macarthur Anglican College. Goodluck to all players involved.

Senior Oztag

Last week our Senior Oztag team played a terrific game against Wollondilly Anglican College in hot conditions.  In the first half they were strong in defence and quick in attack, leading 6-1. With a great mindset and a positive team attitude we continued to dominate in the second half winning 13 - 6. A great effort by all!

This week saw our Senior Oztag team travel to Broughton Anglican College. It didn’t take long before some of our players were displaying some fancy footwork down the sidelines. Going into the second half we were leading by just 1 point but some quick play the balls and great team work shot us into the lead, eventually winning the game 9-4. A special mention to our talented try scorers Zac, Ashton, Jack, Cameron and Grace. We are hoping that our winning streak continues in the upcoming weeks to secure a place in the finals.

Senior Cricket

The Senior Cricket team took on Wollondilly Anglican College last week, in very warm conditions. St Greg’s won the toss and elected to bowl. The team bowled very well, keeping their opposition to a low total. Their was some nice feuding and backing up for one another through the overs. As St Greg’s went in to bat, they did so with courage and strong team work. Their were a number of 4s and even a couple of sixes. St Greg’s took the win, by over 40 runs. A big thank you to Cooper Brown for stepping in to the team again.

This week the Senior Cricket team played Broughton Anglican. We got away to a great start, with our first 3 batsmen, Dominic, Samuel and Connor M, all having to retire after passing 20 runs. We ended our innings with a score of 0/85. With some accurate bowling, we got away to a solid start in the field. Despite some big hits by their batsmen towards the end of Broughton’s innings, we managed to come away with a 15 run victory.

The boys are to be commended for their good sportsmanship. We wish them well in the last round, as they are a chance of competing in the finals.
