Public Speaking Competition

Public Speaking was introduced in Term 3 as a whole school program from K-6 to target speaking and listening skills in literacy. The students were given explicit guidance in writing speeches using the 5 Ps - Preparation, Pace, Posture, Projection and Performance. With mentoring from the students in the senior school, every student planned, wrote and performed their speeches to their class peers.

Finally, judged by senior school students, one student from each class was selected to perform at the inaugural Public Speaking showcase in Br Luke Hall.

Our gratitude is extended to David DeVecchis whose vision of the whole school program was born from a Max Potential project. David worked with the staff and students to help develop the program, resources, signs and awards.

This is the beginning of a new annual tradition in the Junior School. This program will help build great oratory skills that are essential in life as well as confidence and self esteem.

We look forward to continued development of public speaking skills next year.

Kindergarten Calmsley Hill City Farm Visit

On Monday 28th October Kindergarten went to Calmsley Hill City Farm as part of their inquiry unit on ‘Living Things’. The following day KL children wrote about their experiences.

Yesterday KL went to the farm and the first thing we saw was a python and the snake had shed it’s skin. We saw Mrs Limbrey crack a whip. My most favourite thing was the tractor ride because it was bumpy.

Yesterday KL went to the farm and we got to travel on a bus. The bus was big. I saw a pig. She was pink and big and asleep. I like the farm.

Amalia V

Yesterday KL went to the farm. My favourite parts were when we went on a tractor ride and when we saw the dogs rounding up sheep. I had a lot of fun at the farm because after the break we got to play in the park. We also got to see a sheep getting sheared. When we went home we were very tired.
