From the Classroom - B5 (Jess)
The weeks are absolutely flying by, with students in B5 busily finishing off various projects they have been working on in the classroom.
Reading
In Year 3/4, students develop regular Structured Reading Responses for given texts, utilising their tracks (or thinking) to demonstrate an understanding of what they have read. This week however, students have begun working on their Creative Reading Responses, providing them with the space to be imaginative and think outside the box about a book they have studied across the term. Students have been provided a choice regarding the type of creative response they would complete for our class novel, 'No Words' by Maryam Master. Options included:
- Storyboard the climax of the novel as a graphic novel page
- Character transformation timeline showing how they change and why
- Write the first chapter of a sequel
We look forward to sharing our finished responses at Student Led Conferences next Wednesday.
Writing
Our Analytical Expositions, a persuasive piece of writing, are in the process of being drafted. Students have selected from one of three topics related to bullying, to develop their writing, focusing on sharing with their audience why they believe the issue is so important. Various Writing Skills have been embedded to further engage and persuade readers, including rhetorical questions, evidence, and cause and effect. As our non-fiction writing piece for this term, students will have the opportunity to type these up on their iPads for publishing.
Maths
This week saw us move into the final topic of the term, Statistics. Students have looked at the differences between categorical and numerical data, developing their own questions for each data set that they could use to complete an investigation for. Over the next two weeks, students will completing multiple surveys, recording the results in a frequency table before displaying their data on column graphs and many-to-one graphs. Have a discussion at home about what other questions you could ask to complete a statistical investigation for.
