Food Studies News

End Of Term 3:
Year 8 Food Studies
Our Year 8 Food Studies students have just completed their first CAT with a delicious challenge — creating zucchini burgers while demonstrating strong food safety and hygiene practices.
To prepare, students were able to complete a trial run of the recipe. This allowed them to identify what worked well, reflect on challenges, and problem-solve ways to improve their efficiency in the kitchen. For their final attempt, students worked independently without teacher or peer assistance, showcasing their growth in confidence and skill.
Each student then carried out a sensory analysis of their burger and compared their results with peer feedback. Many noted that by the second run, they were far more organised, efficient, and proud of the improved presentation and flavour of their burger. It was pleasing to witness each student’s growth and independence in the kitchen.

International Student Lunch
Last week our international students got together and prepared a feast for the International Student Lunch. From mango pancakes to hand-folded dumplings, there was something for everybody to enjoy.
International students had the opportunity to bring along a “local buddy” for lunch to share the joy of global foods. This gave students a chance to share their favourite foods, and beyond that, it provided a medium for cross-cultural communication through food.
The global prefects were incredibly fortunate to have such a talented team of chefs, shown through the excellent quality of the dishes prepared.
Thank you very much to Ms Crespo, Ms Truong and Ms Penny for helping organise the lunch for all the students, as it was highly successful and enjoyable for all involved.
We hope for another exciting term and look forward to hosting the next International Student Lunch.
