HRRRT awards highlight students who demonstrate High Expectations, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Teamwork.

Monash Tech School Experience:

Our Year 7 students completed an inspiring two-day program at Monash Tech School, where they explored the cutting-edge world of automated manufacturing and sustainable product design. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into future career pathways while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills in real-world applications.

ICAS Academic Competitions:

We are pleased to report strong participation in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) across Years 7-10. Students challenged themselves across different curriculum areas, demonstrating their academic capabilities on an international stage. Results will be available shortly, and we anticipate celebrating many outstanding achievements.

John Monash Commemorative Service:

Mr Knox and four of our student leaders had the honour of attending the John Monash Commemorative Service at Parliament House. This significant event provided our students with an opportunity to engage with Australian history and democratic values while representing our college with distinction.

Model United Nations Success:

Our students represented South Oakleigh College magnificently at the Model United Nations event hosted by Caulfield Grammar School. This experience enhanced their understanding of global issues, diplomacy, and public speaking while building confidence in collaborative problem-solving.

Wellfest Week:

Our annual Wellfest week provided students with engaging activities and valuable opportunities for reflection on wellbeing. Students explored what makes them happy and healthy through workshops, activities, and discussions that promoted positive mental health and self-awareness across all year levels.

These celebrations reflect the diverse opportunities available at South Oakleigh College and the enthusiasm our students bring to every experience. We look forward to continued growth, learning, and achievement in Term 4. Congratulations to all students, staff, and families who contributed to making these events successful and memorable

Visiting Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Los Angeles, students will participate in sport career related modules at Colleges such as Harvad, NYU and Georgetown, visit High Schools, be exposed to elite training facilities, meet high performing professionals and attend a variety of sporting events. Further information can be found towards the back of this Newsletter and feel free to contact Mr Picone or Mr Katsianos to have any of your questions answered and secure your place in this once of a lifetime opportunity.

The College School Uniform:

A reminder that from next term, all students are required to wear their Summer uniform. The term 3 break is a great opportunity to try on each of the uniform items just in case you are required to purchase any new pieces from PSW Cheltenham, or second hand items from the sustainableschoolshop.com.au.  Our school Uniform Policy is written and endorsed by our School Council. The expectation is that every student wears their uniform correctly as it is a symbol of the high expectations held at South Oakleigh College. The vast majority of students wear their uniform perfectly every day and it really looks fantastic. It is also a way we show pride in our school and that we are a member of this unique and quite special community.

Allergies:

As Spring sets upon us we acknowledge the rise in pollen in the air and therefore the impact it has on hay fever and other allergies. We ask that students who may be affected be prepared for each day of learning and, if required, consider taking an anti-histamine before school to help with their comfort during the day and their learning in the classroom.

Student accident insurance/ambulance cover arrangements and private property at school:

Parents/guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs. Insurance can be purchased through a commercial insurer.

The Department of Education and Training does not have insurance for personal property brought to school and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.

In conclusion, I wish all our school community a much deserved break, and look forward to see you all in  Term 4.
