Art

It has been another busy and creative time in the Art Room, with students exploring a wonderful variety of materials, techniques and artists.

Students created textured mosaic coasters using an assortment of dried beans, rice and corn. They experimented with arranging the different shapes, colours and textures to create their own unique designs. It was wonderful to see the care and creativity that went into these tactile artworks.

There was plenty of enthusiasm as students learned to draw diving cats, using watercolours to bring their drawings to life. They also explored the resist technique of using oil pastels to block the watercolour, creating bright and interesting effects.

We also explored the exciting world of Pop Art and looked at the giant sculptures of artist Claes Oldenburg. Inspired by his oversized sculptures of everyday objects and food, students attempted to create their own giant hamburgers and milkshakes using a range of materials. These colourful and playful artworks certainly brought a lot of fun into the Art Room!

We were also very fortunate to welcome Georgie from the Gallery for an art incursion. Students enjoyed learning new techniques and exploring the work of artists connected to our local community. Room 1 learnt the traditional textile technique of felting, experimenting with fibres to create their own colourful pieces. Room 2 explored collage, taking inspiration from local artist Frank Msaric and creating artworks using shapes, colour, layering and composition.

It has been fantastic to see students embracing new materials and techniques with such enthusiasm, curiosity and imagination. There have been lots of creative risks, happy discoveries and, of course, plenty of wonderful artwork happening in the Art Room!
