Throughout the term, students enjoy exploring a range of stories through our text studies. These texts give us opportunities to make connections, explore different types of texts, build our vocabulary and deepen our understanding. We also use the ideas, characters and information we discover to inspire our own writing, thinking and responses.
Family is a beautiful story about the many different ways a family can look and what makes families special. It reminds us that family is about love, belonging, sharing stories and caring for each other and Country. Families come in all shapes and sizes, and this story celebrates the people, places and connections that help us feel at home.

Fluke is the story of a young sperm whale who dreams of seeing the stars but discovers that sometimes we need to look at things in a different way. As Fluke follows some wise advice and begins his adventure, students explore themes of curiosity, perseverance and discovery, while also building their understanding of the ocean, the night sky and the amazing natural world around us.

Through our learning, students are building their vocabulary by exploring new words such as agile, embrace, unique and bioluminescence. We are also developing our nonfiction reading and writing skills, learning how to find important facts, identify key information and summarise what we have learnt in our own words.
Students are learning to add numbers by bridging to the next ten. We are practising how to find the next ten, break apart a number to reach it, and then add what is left. Students use counters, ten frames and number lines to show their thinking and develop efficient strategies for solving addition problems.

This term, our Respectful Relationships learning is focusing on helping and supporting others. Students are learning how to notice when someone may need help, show kindness and include others, as well as recognise when a problem needs the support of a trusted adult. We are also practising how to ask for help clearly and confidently and identifying the trusted people at home, school and in our community who can help us feel safe and supported.
