Child Safe Standards

To maintain a child safe organisation and protect students, we regularly revisit, discuss and prioritise the safety of our all students. See below for a summary of child safe standards in action at NPS.

1.    Culturally safe environments

At NPS, we display Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and include First Nations perspectives in the curriculum. We also acknowledge and celebrate the backgrounds of all our students.

2.    Child safety and wellbeing embedded in leadership, governance and culture

At NPS, we regularly discuss child safety at our staff meetings and, if required, at School Council.

3.    Child and student empowerment

At NPS, we teach students about their rights and involve students in developing school expectations to ensure safety.

4.    Family and community involvement

At NPS, we invite family feedback and involve the community in promoting child safety.

5.    Equity upheld and diverse needs respected

At NPS, we make reasonable adjustments for students with a disability and ensure resources reflect diverse cultures and backgrounds.

6.    Suitable staff and volunteers

At NPS, we conduct Working with Children Checks, referee checks, police checks (where required), and provide child safety induction before staff or volunteers begin work.

7.    Child-focused complaints processes

At NPS, we respond promptly to concerns and encourage our students to speak up.

8.    Child safety knowledge, skills and awareness

At NPS, we provide annual child safety training for all staff and volunteers, including recognising abuse and their mandatory reporting obligations.

9.    Physical and online environments promote safety

At NPS, we supervise on yard duty, teach cyber safety, and restrict access to unsafe areas.

10.    Review and improve child safety practices

At NPS, we review incidents and near misses and update policies based on findings.

11.    Policies and procedures document child safety

At NPS, we maintain clear Child Safety and Wellbeing Policies, Codes of Conduct, reporting procedures, and ensure all staff know where to access them.
