Coming Together in Faith and Action

The Work of Caritas

Our work with Project Compassion through the period of Lent is in full swing! Just to reiterate, the work that Caritas does around the world can be found on their website and is always worth checking out.

Students across our school have been busy learning about Project Compassion, including through the use of distinct stories found on the Caritas website.

One of the best aspects of this learning is how our students grow to understand not only how we can help those in need, but exactly why they may find themselves in need of assistance. Our Year 3/4 students have been learning about the unfortunate concept of Poverty in our world.

Uniting Against Poverty

Those visiting our Year 3/4 classroom for our Open Afternoon may have seen an example of effective learning on this topic, where our students were reading through Caritas resources and sharing their understanding as well as further questions.

We understand poverty to mean not having enough money for basic human needs such as food, clean water, shelter, toiletries, clothing and education. Our students discussed how unfortunately 689 billion people around the world live in extreme poverty each day.

Further to this our students unpacked some of the various factors that can cause poverty. Please read through a few of their written understandings below:

Learning about this at school can sometimes be a bit of a sad experience, but ultimately a super valuable one. Our students grow to understand how people find themselves in the need of assistance, which better equips them to show understanding and generosity. Each day students are filling our Project Compassion boxes with coins, now having a much better understanding to where these valuable funds go.

Our Gratitude Gallery

Further to this, the generoisty of our school community has been on full display with our Generosity Gallery growing each day!

Each image on our display not only includes a beautiful photo of some special people in the lives of our community members, but also gold coin donations which go towards the money raised for Caritas.

We are so very thankful to those families and staff who have already entered! Just a reminder that this is still very much open, simply send a photo to me via email with an explanation of who is featured, and send a gold coin donation to school.

We will continue to raise money for Project Compassion as the term goes on. This will also include events for our Harmony Day and a very special St Anthony's Talent Show!

Projects like this do not thrive without the amazing generosity of our community, so thank you so very much from the bottom of our hearts. All of your support is seen, and valued!

God Bless!
