Year 1/2

Year 1/2 Cluster News

It has been lovely hearing all about family events during the break. If your child would like to talk about one event they enjoyed, please send in a photo and we can make a time to share this. Another opportunity for your child to share is in the Home Inquiry.

Home Inquiry

What special events happened when your child was born? Did you have a dedication, a naming ceremony or a baptism? We would like to hear about the event and see some photos to support our Christian Studies unit about rituals and celebrations.

Every Day

Please check that your child has these items at school every day:

  • hat
  • water bottle
  • Take Home Folder

Please check that their name is clearly marked on each item, including school jackets.

Reading: We encourage your child to read every night for 10-15 minutes. Please listen to your child read the decodable books and ask the ‘check for understanding’ questions at the back. Once you have read the ‘decodable book’ 2 or 3 times, please send it back with the recording sheet.

The ‘Interest books' with coloured round stickers on the front may need to be read together.

Christian Studies

What is prayer? Who prays? How do they pray? Why do they pray? Students share their experiences and investigate how people pray in the Bible.

Writer’s Workshop

Narrative (story) Writing: Students begin by creating characters, setting and a problem.

Reader’s Workshop

Students are learning to make connections between what they are reading to other books, to their own life experiences and to events that happen in the world e.g. This character has a dog and I have a dog.

Mathematics:

Students are consolidating their understanding of patterns (number, shape and colour) and data (asking questions, collecting information and graphing).

Unit of Inquiry: Sharing the Planet

Year 1 students focus on the needs of living things. The Wilbur’s Wildlife incursion last term provided information and students will continue to research by reading and viewing..

Year 2 students build on this knowledge from last year and focus on patterns in the sky, including moon phases, seasons and Indigenous stories.
