We would like to remind/advise students and their families of the following;

The school newsletter is published fortnightly on a Wednesday afternoon. It is a valuable source of information that can be emailed directly to you. Alternatively, you can access these via our website, the SEQTA Engage portal or as a hardcopy from the General Office.
Students are to ensure they are attending class with all the necessary items required for learning (charged laptop, stationery, exercise and text books and any homework). If you have any concerns or queries please contact the General Office on 5349 2305.
Students are not to remain in corridors during recess and lunchtimes unless advised otherwise by a staff member. Food is not permitted in the corridors.
The following areas are out of bounds:
- the area between the Primary School and the Drama Centre/Gym, with the exception of going to and from PE classes or a Student Assembly in the Drama Centre
- the walkway between the Secondary College and the Primary School
- the bus shelter
For students entering and leaving the school grounds near the Early Childhood Centre, please stick to the pathway provided. DO NOT cut across the carpark.
For safety reasons, there is to be no running in or around the school buildings; please save this activity for the school oval and/or the basketball courts.
Students are to respect all school property at all times. This includes indoor and outdoor furniture, equipment, spaces, garden beds, plants etc.
All sign-up sheets for inter-school sports will be placed on the sports noticeboard in the Link corridor. We encourage students to try out new sports in addition to those they are passionate about. Due to there being a limited time to submit teams in any given sport, we ask that you please sign up for your chosen sport/s at the earliest opportunity.
Sports equipment is available from the Year 12 Common Room (located at the rear of the Fibres room) at recess and lunchtimes. Any equipment borrowed is expected to be returned to the Common Room, prior to the end of recess or lunchtime.
Breakfast Club is held at 8:30am each Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Student Centre; all students are welcome.
Book Club is held each Thursday at 1pm in the library. If you would like to participate, please bring along a book you would like to talk about.
Drama Club is held each Tuesday at 1pm in the Drama Centre.
Yard Duty Supervision - The school grounds are supervised between the hours of 8:30am and 3:40pm or until the last bus departs. Outside of these hours, school staff will not be available to supervise students.
Our onsite Doctors in Schools program operates every second Thursday. Appointments are available through Jackie or Andrea, although walk-ins are welcome during recess or lunchtime, however they are subject to availability. This is a free and confidential service.

Uniform

We ask that all students are prepared with the correct uniform items. It is expected that students maintain our uniform standards throughout the year, regardless of the season.

All students are required to attend school in complete school uniform, including school approved jackets, hats, beanies, socks and shoes. Please note that hoodies are NOT permitted to be worn under the uniform for any reason. If it is not possible for a student to attend in their full uniform, students will require a note from a parent or guardian stipulating the reason. Students who fail to comply with this process will be issued with 2 warnings, before receiving a lunchtime uniform detention.

Skirts, dresses and shorts must be of an acceptable length (generally between the knee and mid-thigh).
Hats and beanies are not to be worn inside, including corridors, classrooms and the Gym. Please don't wait to be asked to remove them.
Hair past shoulder length is to be tied up at all times. Once again, please don't wait to be asked to do so. If you do not have a hair tie, please see Mr. De Zoete Spiero.
Earring studs, small sleepers and discreet necklaces may be worn, while the only facial piercing permitted is a small nose stud. Students will be expected to remove all other facial piercings and visible jewellery.

Please note** The uniform items shown are an example of the standard uniform options available. Students should select the items they feel most comfortable in, ensuring they have sufficient items to wear throughout the school week. In addition to the standard uniform options, students will require at least one set of the Sports Uniform (green polo shirt and navy sports shorts). Uniform items can be viewed and purchased from the Noone Crockers website or from the Noone Crockers store, located in Armstrong St. Ballarat.

If you have financial concerns relating to the uniform, please speak with one of our Assistant Principals: Simon De Zoete Spiero, Kirstie Thomson or Jackie Kerr, at the earliest opportunity.

For further information regarding our Uniform Policy, please see either the SEQTA Engage/Learn Portal or the school's website: beaufortsc.vic.edu.au

Canteen Menu

Please Note - the canteen is now able to take online orders via the Flexischools app, however all orders must still be placed no later than recess.

Thunderstorm Asthma

Be Prepared This Pollen Season

Grass pollen season in Victoria usually runs from October to December. During this time, asthma, hay fever and allergy symptoms can worsen. There is also an increased risk of thunderstorm asthma.

Ten years ago, Melbourne experienced the largest thunderstorm asthma event in the world. Thunderstorm asthma can occur suddenly and may be life-threatening, particularly for people whose asthma or hay fever is not well managed.

Beaufort Secondary College has measures in place to help keep our school community safe. Many staff are trained in asthma first aid, and we monitor VicEmergency for thunderstorm asthma warnings. When required, students may be kept indoors during periods of increased risk.

Managing Asthma, Hay Fever and Allergies

With pollen counts increasing during spring, we encourage families to ensure students are prepared for the season.

If your child has asthma, hay fever or allergies, please:

Ensure their symptoms are well managed and that any prescribed medication is taken as directed.
Speak with your doctor or pharmacist about developing an asthma, hay fever or allergy management plan and provide a copy of this to school.
Make sure your child has taken their hay fever medication before school, particularly on high pollen days.
Consider providing the school with a supply of your child's prescribed hay fever medication to be kept at the General Office for use when required. Please note that a Medical Authority Form must be completed by a parent/guardian before any medication can be administered at school. Please obtain this form from the General Office.
If your child experiences coughing, wheezing or breathing difficulties during hay fever season, consult your doctor to determine whether asthma may also be present.
Ensure your child has access to their asthma reliever medication (puffer) if prescribed.
Follow thunderstorm asthma forecasts and warnings through the VicEmergency website or app.
Where possible, avoid being outdoors during thunderstorms, especially during the strong winds that precede a storm.
Familiarise yourself with asthma first aid procedures.

By working together to manage asthma, hay fever and allergies, we can help ensure all students remain healthy, safe and ready to learn throughout the pollen season.
