WAVERLEY DIVISION ATHLETICS

In the lead up to Division Athletics next Friday the 22nd of August there will continue to be a number of training sessions available for students.

Monday the 18th – Relay training at Ringwood Athletics Track. Can parents/guardians ensure that consent is complete for this on Compass

Tuesday the 19th – Team meeting for all competitors in L05 at lunch time

Wednesday the 20th – Throws training on the oval

The full team list has been published on Compass and outside the sports office! If the Compass event is not appearing for students who are listed on the team can they please inform me ASAP!

Parents/guardians are more than welcome to attend on the day to support their children. Looking forward to a great day of competition!

Table Tennis

A wonderful day was had by our Badminton team on Tuesday. The competition was fierce but our students showed great team spirit and never gave up. The boys A team just missed out on the grand final by one game in the end. The girls A team made the grand final but against some strong competition were not able to quite get the win. Well done to the B teams for their enthusiasm on the day playing their hearts out all day.

Intermediate Boys Basketball

The Intermediate Boys’ Basketball team had a fantastic day at regionals, finishing with two strong wins and just one narrow loss. The boys played with skill, intensity, and great team spirit across all three matches, proving themselves as a force on the court.

A big thank you to our coaches, Jeth and Tom, for their guidance, encouragement, and leadership throughout the day. Congratulations to all the players on a great effort and an impressive result—plenty to build on for next year!

Hockey

Girls

What a fun day it was to be outside playing hockey! We competed in 3 different games and managed to stay undefeated. First game against Mount Waverley 0-0, second game against Highvale 1-1 and the game that decided it all was against Glen Waverley 2-0. All the girls put in their greatest effort, considering the fact most of them were playing for the first time. All the effort put into these games, and they truly got the result they deserved, meaning we are through to regionals. There was great sportsmanship and positivity within the group and it projected on how they played together. It was an extremely fun to spend a day getting to know the team. Bring on Regionals!!

Netball

Year 7 Girls

The Year 7 Girls’ Netball team kicked off their day with a tough match against Rowville, going down in their opening game. Instead of letting that early loss shake their confidence, the girls used it as motivation – and what followed was nothing short of impressive.

From game two onwards, the team went on a winning streak, not dropping a single match for the rest of the day. Their consistency, teamwork, and growing confidence saw them storm into the finals with plenty of momentum. They beat Canterbury Girls in the semi-finals to set up an epic grand final.

In the grand final, fate had it that they would once again face Rowville. The girls brought grit, determination, and skill to the court, pushing hard until the final whistle. Although Rowville proved just too strong on the day, our girls walked away with heads held high, proud of how far they had come in such a short time.

The resilience shown after that first-round loss is a testament to their dedication and team spirit.

Senior Girls

The senior girls netball team played some fantastic netball at the EMR round robin. The girls made the semi final and despite their best efforts were beaten by a better team on the day. Well done to all players and to the year 12 team members I hope you enjoyed your last games of school netball!

Senior Boys/Mixed

The Senior Boys’ Netball team had an exciting and hard-fought regionals, finishing just one point shy of a place in the finals. While the scoreboard didn’t quite swing our way in the end, the team showed incredible determination, skill, and sportsmanship throughout every match.

From the first whistle, the boys brought energy and teamwork on the court. Each game was a display of quick passing, smart defence, and plenty of determination in the goal ring. Standout performances came from across the squad, with every player stepping up when the team needed them most. Close matches kept the team on their toes, and the final round was played with finals-level intensity.

Congratulations to all the year 12 boys and hopefully next year the year 11 boys can go one better.

Intermediate Boys/Mixed

The Intermediate Boys’ Netball team faced a challenging day at regionals, coming up against some highly skilled opposition. While the boys went down in all three matches, they showed fantastic resilience, teamwork, and determination in every game. From the very first whistle, the team worked hard—fighting for every possession, moving the ball quickly through the court, and showing grit in defence. A huge thank you to our Year 12 coaches, Caitlin and Samantha, for their guidance, positivity, and support throughout the day. Congratulations to all the players for their effort and sportsmanship—hopefully next year’s team can turn that hard work into wins.

Soccer

Year 8 Girls

Last week, our Year 8 Girls Soccer team took on the Eastern Regional competition. Unfortunately, with a bye round and a tough opening match, we only got to play two games on the day. Our first game saw us up against a well-drilled and highly skilled opponent, Rowville Sports Academy, and although we went down 4–0, our goalkeeper Ann was outstanding, making several impressive saves. Our defenders worked tirelessly, but we struggled to get the ball into our attacking zone. We finished the day on a high with a 3–0 win over Monbulk College, thanks to goals from Alice and Chantelle. Despite not progressing to the State competition like we did last year, the team should be proud of their determination, with several players pushing through injuries and colds to take the field.
