VSC is so proud of our debating teams that have wrapped up the last round incredibly, and we couldn’t be prouder of their effort, skill, and respect for other schools across all year levels.
The Year 12 A Grade Team delivered an exceptional performance, winning their secret topic that ‘Teachers pay should be determined by feedback from students and parents’! Their quick thinking, strong arguments and well framed rebuttals were a fitting finish to their final season of school debating.
Congratulations to Anders (Com-Ander) F, Kavya (Kav-ismatic) B, and Samuel (Sam-munition) G!
Our Year 11 B Grade Team, Finished second overall in the tournament. Although, they didn’t secure the win this round, an impressive effort against tough competition, as well as an impressive effort to tackle a secret topic ‘That all competitive sports should include age categories.’ Well done to Claire R, Avery F, Juliet O, Aidan B, Archie H, and Jethro S!
The Year 10 C Grade Team ended their season on a high note with a win! Their preparation paid off, and it was wonderful to see their growth and confidence shine through on their final topic that ‘The Australian Government should prioritise tourism as Australia’s main export’.
Finally, our Year 9 teams worked tirelessly in what were some of the closest matches of the tournament. Although losing by the narrowest of margins, their commitment and improvement have set them up for a strong return next year.
A huge thank you goes to the teams and their families; supporters who have encouraged our debaters throughout the season. Whether taking winning best speaker, or learning from a challenging round, our students have made VSC proud.
We encourage all students to participate in DAV Debating – we run this program every year for students in Year 9-12. Our Junior Secondary Program for Years 7 and 8 is coming up – stay tuned to hear about their progress in the Donvale region competition! – Mrs Muhtaseb and Mr Connell.
