Year Three

On Thursday the 3rd of September, the Year Three students, teachers and parent helpers jumped on a tram and travelled to Sam Merrifield Library in Moonee Ponds. The visit to the library supported the students' understanding of our inquiry into ‘Rules, rights and responsibilities help people work together in communities’.  

Catching the tram was a great way to provoke thinking around why communities need public transport as well as the responsibilities that passengers have. The students found the tram trip very exciting and were exceptional travellers! 

We then met Libby the Librarian (yes, her actual name). She spoke with us about all of the books, magazines, movies and games that are available to borrow from the library. Libby read the picture story book ‘You, me, community’ which was a great link back to our inquiry. It was a lovely story with the message of never having to face anything alone when you are a member of a community. The students then explored the different sections of the children’s books before setting out to complete a scavenger hunt. They set out to find bookworms, meeting rooms and a framed letter from Roald Dahl! 

Local libraries are incredible public spaces that offer a range of different services, events and experiences throughout the year. We hope that you’re inspired to become more active in your library community by visiting!
