Year One

As part of our unit exploring how living things have needs that are supported by where they live, our Year One students became budding scientists as they observed snails. With curiosity and care, students closely examined the snails, noticing their features, movement and behaviour. They discussed what snails need to survive and how their habitat provides food, shelter, moisture and protection. Students recorded and shared their observations using both everyday and scientific vocabulary, developing their understanding of the important relationship between living things and their environments. Through this hands-on experience, students also reflected on why it is important to care for and protect the minibeasts that share our environment. 

Please note that students did not handle the snails and they were released as soon as possible after the activity.
