Message

As we reach the end of Term 3, we think of Year 12 and the completion of their compulsory years of schooling. They have recently finished their trial examinations and received feedback on their performance, which is then used to finalise subject rankings. There are plenty of conversations about the "lasts" they will encounter, including their final classes. The preparation for Graduation and the Formal occupies much of their focus before they head into their final study period leading into the exams. I implore all students and parents to recognise how many positive changes can be made to final marks in the last month before examinations, including during the upcoming holiday period. Our fantastic staff are available to support your daughter as she prepares for these final assessments.

We also wish our Year 12 Drama, TAS, and Music students all the best as they undergo their practical HSC exams.

We had a fantastic Father’s Day Mass & Breakfast last Friday, where we celebrated with a beautiful service led by Father Pat (Parish Priest of OLSH Parish, Randwick). Thank you to all the fathers who shared such positive feedback about the morning.

The College also celebrated Book Week, which involved a great deal of work from staff and enthusiastic effort from our students. I would like to thank everyone who played an integral part in both events.

Year 7 students were treated to an educational experience on First Nations artwork, working alongside the Nyumbar Aboriginal Cultural Education group. The feedback from the Year 7 students was that it was both an uplifting and fun activity.

We recently received our NAPLAN results and will spend time analysing the data to explore how we can continue to maximise the learning experience for Years 7 and 9. Our results indicated impressive growth from Year 7 to Year 9, especially in reading and writing - where our students achieved the highest rank in Sydney Catholic Schools for writing. I extend a hearty congratulations to our phenomenal staff, whose dedication directly contributed to these outstanding results.

I also extend my congratulations to our athletes, who performed wonderfully across Term 3 in AFL, Hockey, Athletics, and OzTag - all achieving excellent results.

Recently, we hosted a leadership lunch where the outgoing Year 12 student leaders met with the new Year 11 student leadership team to pass along helpful tips on how to thrive in their new roles.

Our Year 7 and 8 students have been learning Gregorian Chant as part of our Liturgy program. This provides a deeply spiritual experience for students to deepen their faith perspective and strengthen their relationship with God. Additionally, our students have been invited to participate as a lead choir in the Walk with Christ event on November 24th alongside Archbishop Fisher; a wonderful recognition of our Music faculty’s hard work and dedication.

In finishing I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mr Vince Papa our Director of Learning and Innovation. Mr Papa will be moving on at the end of term and we thank him for his time at the College leading this portfolio and teaching Visual Arts. We wish him luck in his future ventures.
