A Day of Creative Writing with Deb Abela

Selected Year 3 and 4 students recently participated in an engaging online writing workshop with award-winning Australian author Deb Abela, as part of our Student Excellence Program.
Throughout the day, students explored the craft of storytelling through interactive activities, videos, and examples from Deb’s own novels. They developed their understanding of how to create compelling characters, settings, and plots, while also building skills in drafting, editing, and refining their writing.
It was a valuable opportunity for students to learn directly from a professional author and strengthen their own creative writing.
Sathya - “I loved the stories. There was a lot of thinking and I have improved in writing, especially the problems. I love the stories.”
Ianna - “It was really fun! I enjoyed creating stories and getting more information on how to create more interesting, compelling stories and being given professional advice. Now I feel more confident in being able to express author-style writing. Overall, a great experience.”
Vinnie - “I loved learning how to write and make my stories more interesting and hearing stories and being able to express my imagination.”
Tegan - "I have always loved writing and was thrilled to be sharing my work with a professional author. My favourite part of the workshop was reading my intro for everyone and knowing that Deborah Abela likes my work. I feel like my writing has improved over the day.”
