At our recent parent and carer learning session, Theresa Blaauw (one of our school’s Learning Specialists) delivered a great presentation on the importance of mathematical fluency in children’s learning. Theresa highlighted how strong fluency with number facts, strategies and efficient thinking supports students to work with greater confidence and accuracy as they move through school and begin tackling increasingly complex mathematical problems.
We were delighted with the fantastic turnout from our parent and carer community. Following the presentation, families joined their children in classrooms, where they actively participated in learning activities and saw firsthand how fluency is developed and practised in everyday mathematics learning.
It was wonderful to see such strong engagement from our community, and we thank everyone who attended and contributed to making the session such a positive and valuable experience.

I had the pleasure of attending the prep assembly on Friday 1st May. What a way to end a busy week! There was a beautiful sense of pride and shared love as the prep students led and performed some beautiful pieces including our acknowledgement of Country, I Can Sing A Rainbow, You Can Count On Me, and Old McDonald Had a Farm.
At one stage, I wondered whether it was the teachers or the students who were enjoying it more!

Do you know any family with Prep children starting school next year?
Look no further. Our CPS community is waiting to welcome you.
We have a number of school tours scheduled for prospective Prep families considering enrolment for 2027. Members of our leadership team will be leading these tours, providing families with valuable insight into the learning opportunities, programs and community that make CPS such a special place.
To support family availability, we are offering both morning and after-school tours, with all bookings available through our school website: www.carnegieps.vic.edu.au
Our first tour was a wonderful success. As we moved through classrooms across the school, families were able to see teaching and learning in action. It was a proud moment to witness the strength of explicit teaching, purposeful student engagement and the calm, consistent school routines that were so beautifully evident throughout the morning.
Please contact any member of our office team: 9771 2662 should you need any support with the enrolment process. Please let your neighbours know too.
Another incredible turnout for our annual House Cross Country! We were thrilled to see such enthusiastic participation from parents, community members, teachers, and students alike. Thanks Mr Pollard - another well organised and successful event.

Our fantastic PFA once again organised a memorable Mother's Day Stall for our students. Thanks to our committed parent volunteers. They worked industriously wrapping presents in the staffroom prior to the big sales event.
A special thank you is also extended to Elle Cato (Parent of Hazel and Nina) for organinsing the annual Mother’s Day lunch held at Grazia restaurant in Gen iris.
From all accounts, it was another special and memorable day for our CPS mums and carers, once again showcasing the amazing community spirit and those who invest to ensure we remain involved and connected.
Community Engagement Committee
We’re excited to introduce our new Community Engagement Committee — a School Council sub-committee focused on strengthening connections across our school community and helping our school continue to flourish.
The committee will bring together two important areas:
We are inviting parents and carers who would like to contribute ideas, energy and community spirit to consider joining us.
The commitment is light — around 45 minutes each month on a Tuesday, (afterschool) — with the opportunity for some additional involvement in projects that support our school community.
Some of the first projects being explored include the return of grade-level working bees and the development of parent engagement programs designed to build stronger connections between families and school.
Anyone with expertise in web design or creating social media content - please consider joining!
If you are keen to get involved, or would simply like to find out more, please contact the school office by phone 9571 2662 or email carnegie.ps@education.vic.au
to express your interest.
Your ideas, support and involvement can make a real difference — we’d love to have you with us.
At Carnegie Primary School we know that year level WhatsApp groups and social media pages can be a great way for families to stay connected, share reminders and support one another.
As a school community, we ask that online communication reflects the same respect and integrity we value at CPS. The way adults communicate online has a strong impact on school culture and helps shape a positive and inclusive environment for our students.
We encourage families to:
Parent WhatsApp groups and social media pages are not ‘official’ school communication channels and are not monitored by the school.
If clarification or support is needed, we encourage families to contact the school office directly so we can work together positively and respectfully.
We also ask families to please advise the school of any inappropriate, concerning or unsafe online communication connected to our school community so concerns can be addressed appropriately.
Thank you for continuing to support a connected and respectful CPS community.
Have a great week!
