Sacrament of Confirmation

Over the weekend, our parish community gathered in joyful celebration for the Sacrament of Confirmation alongside St Peter’s, Glowrey and Carlo Acutis Primary Schools. It was a beautifully reverent and spirit-filled celebration presided over by Bishop Thinh and Father Anh, supported by Father Isaac and Brother Xavier.

Together, we witnessed 84 candidates from across our parish be anointed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit as they completed the final sacrament of initiation into the Catholic faith. It was a special moment for our parish community to come together in faith, prayer and celebration as these young people publicly affirmed their commitment to continue growing in their relationship with Christ and living out the values of the Gospel.

We especially congratulate our 54 SMCM candidates on this significant milestone in their faith journey. Throughout the evening, our students demonstrated great reverence, maturity and pride as they received the Sacrament of Confirmation surrounded by their families, sponsors, teachers and parish community.

Bishop Thinh spoke beautifully to the candidates about the importance and power of the Holy Spirit, unpacking their chosen commitment to Confirmation through the themes of “Chosen, Not Alone and Mission.” He reminded students that each of them has been

personally chosen and called by God, that they are never alone as the Holy Spirit walks beside them, along with their families, sponsors, teachers and friends and that they are now commissioned to go out into the world and live as disciples of Christ through their words, actions and service to others. This message was both affirming and inspiring for our students as they continue their faith journey beyond the sacrament itself.

We extend our sincere thanks to our families for their ongoing support, prayer and partnership throughout the sacramental program. We also thank our staff, parish leaders and all those who helped prepare and support the celebration. It was a truly memorable occasion for our school and parish community and we pray that the gifts of the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen our newly confirmed students in all they do.

Our Year 4 students have officially begun their preparations for the Sacrament of First Eucharist. This week, students commenced their journey by exploring the theme of Christ Within Me and reflecting on how Jesus is present in our hearts, our actions and within our community. As students continue learning about the Eucharist, this theme will gradually reveal its deeper meaning, helping them to understand the importance of gathering together at Mass, receiving Holy Communion and recognising Christ’s presence in the Eucharist and in one another.

Throughout this sacramental journey, students will engage in prayer, reflection and meaningful learning experiences that will support them in developing a deeper connection with their faith and relationship with God.

We look forward to walking alongside our Year 4 students and families during this special time. Further information regarding the Sacrament of First Eucharist, including important dates and preparation details, will be shared with families over the coming week.
