Principal's News

Dear SMCM Community, Wominjeka!

Congratulations to our young St Peter’s Parishioners who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation last Saturday. Guided by the Holy Spirit, may our candidates continue to grow in courage, wisdom and faith as they deepen their relationship with God. Thank you to our families, sponsors and staff for supporting our children on this important step in their faith journey.

This week’s Learning Conversations have been a wonderful opportunity for families to connect with their child’s Homegroup teacher to discuss learning progress and wellbeing. These mid-term meetings help ensure that families and teachers can continue working in partnership to support each child in reaching their goals.

The conversations also provided an opportunity to discuss your child’s upcoming report and their progression against the Victorian Curriculum. When reports are sent home in Week 9 you should feel informed and confident about the data provided. If you would like to discuss your child’s report further at the end of the term, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting.

National Reconciliation Week

This week, our school community has acknowledged and celebrated National Reconciliation Week. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia.

Thank you

Thank you to all families for your continued support of our school community. I recognise the cost of living pressures many families are currently facing, and I appreciate your ongoing support in helping us continue to provide the programs, facilities and resources that enable a high-quality education for all students. Thank you for meeting your school fee commitments and for supporting our fundraising initiatives, most recently our Book Fair and the Shop for Schools promotion.

Funds raised through the Book Fair will be reinvested into purchasing new books for our library and additional novel study class sets to further support student learning and engagement in literacy.

Any prize money received through Shop for Schools will contribute towards our ‘Paddock Makeover’ project. We are hopeful that Stage 1 of this redevelopment, a new synthetic soccer turf valued at approximately $130,000, will be completed later this year, providing another high-quality recreational and sporting space for our students to enjoy.

So keep uploading those receipts and helping us work towards an even better learning and play environment for our students!

Whole School Atheltics Day

A reminder that our Whole School Athletics Day will take place on Thursday 4th June at Meadowglen Athletics Track. All relevant information has been provided in the permission notes sent home earlier this term. For more details, please check the additional 'Sports Day' section of today’s newsletter.

Please note that Friday 5th June, following our Sports Day, will be a School Closure Day. This day provides staff with the opportunity to acquit the additional hours worked throughout the year as part of their Time in Lieu arrangements.

Throughout the year, teachers accrue Time in Lieu through their commitment to activities beyond the regular school day, including parent information evenings, Learning Conversations, sacramental preparation and Masses, staff professional learning, camps, excursions and other community events. We thank our staff for their ongoing dedication and commitment to supporting our students and families.
