With only 2 weeks to go until the Athletics Carnival, we continue to work through different throws and jumps so that everyone has been exposed to, practised, and received some instruction in how to do each of the events.
All students have had the chance to do some jumping in PE sessions this week. Older students have been working on their triple jump and long jump techniques, while the younger students have been seeing how far they can jump into the sand pit. There has been some great improvement from students as they focus on different technical aspects of their approach, jump and landing. Some long jumpers are approaching the 4m mark and some triple jumpers are hop, step and jumping close to 7m!
To be able to effectively run our carnival in two weeks time, we need parent involvement. If you are able to donate a few hours of your time on Friday the 15th May, between 9:30am and 2pm, please let us know. The children will really appreciate it.

On another sporting note, congratulations to Billy Cootee on his AFL debut with the Sydney Swans last week. Billy was a student at Mount Beauty Primary School up until the end of Year 6 in 2015. He was always super keen on any sport we played in class time and would always have a ball in his hand at lunchtime. More importantly, Billy was kind, hard working and showed great leadership skills amongst his peers even as a primary school student. Playing AFL was his dream and he has shown enormous resilience to overcome obstacles along the way. He's inspired a lot of Mount Beauty kids this week and as a school, we are very proud of him.
