As we come to the end of Term 1, we are delighted with how well our students have settled into their new classes and school routines. The beginning of the year is always a time of change, and it has been wonderful to see students building connections with their peers, developing relationships with staff, and growing in confidence within their learning environments.
Establishing predictable routines has been a key focus across the school. For all students—and particularly for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)—consistent routines play an essential role in supporting wellbeing and engagement. When students know what to expect throughout their day, it reduces cognitive load, allowing them to focus more of their energy on learning, social interaction, and skill development.
Our classrooms have worked hard to create structured, supportive environments with clear expectations, visual supports, and consistent daily schedules. These strategies help minimise uncertainty and provide students with a sense of safety and stability. As a result, we have seen increased independence, improved emotional regulation, and stronger participation in learning activities.
We would like to thank our families for their ongoing support in reinforcing routines at home, as this consistency between school and home makes a significant difference for our students.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students have embraced the start of the year and look forward to building on this strong foundation in Term 2.
