Year 8 News

Year 8 Police Education Sessions

From Week 7 through to the end of Term 1, all Year 8 students will attend an information session delivered by representatives from Victoria Police.

These sessions provide important education around emerging issues such as bullying, cybersafety, image-based abuse and consent. With increasing reports to police relating to these topics, the presentation aims to help students understand the impact of social media and the potential consequences of their actions.

Topics covered include different forms of bullying, the possession and sharing of intimate images, sextortion, revenge porn, consent and affirmative consent, as well as recent legislative changes.

Students were highly engaged throughout the presentation, especially with Teilah demonstrating police handcuffs on our Maths teacher, Mr Punia.

Year 8 Class Spotlight

This week, Year 8 Outdoor Ed students also had the opportunity to try their hand at fishing along the banks of the Wimmera River.

Students learnt how to prepare their own fishing lines, including setting up hooks, sinkers and bait. They also developed skills in identifying different fish species found in the river and discussed responsible fishing practices.

The activity provided a great chance for students to spend time outdoors while learning about recreational activities that can be enjoyed in the local area. It was fantastic to see students building practical skills, working together and enjoying time by the river.
