Alternate Programs

Dan Garner - Assistant Principal Alternate Programs

We're nearing the end of term 1.

We are working our way through NAPLAN for our Year 7 and Year 9 students. We thank all our Year 7 and 9 students for their patience and resilience over the last week.

Regarding student absences: if your child has been away for any reason, please contact the teacher to follow up. We're committed to staying informed about your child's progress and offering support where needed. Every day really does matter, and we are keen to support students to attend as much as they are able to.

At this point in the term, the weather is getting colder, the days are getting shorter, and fatigue can set in. Treena Hogan, our wellbeing support officer, is available three days a week to support students if they need someone to talk to. However, students and parents can also reach out to program coordinators for assistance.

Parents are encouraged to seek support for themselves or their child if necessary. As we approach the end of term, we'll be preparing reports for parent-teacher interviews which will be hold on Thursday 23 April.

Thank you all for your support at the beginning of the year.

Blue Group

It’s been a busy beginning to the year for the students in Blue Group as they have begun to get out into the community to visit the Centre for Participation, the JRS Workshop and do their weekly ‘Meals on Wheels’ deliveries.

During week 6, students visited Shaine Hobbs at the JRS workshop to commence work on their print making task. Students were able to carve their piece of lino to create a masterpiece on some fabric of their choice from scarves, handkerchiefs and pillows.

The students had made 9 deliveries to members of the community to ensure that they had a delicious, cooked meals for the long weekend. The students enjoyed meeting the Meal on Wheels clients and are looking forward to giving them a weekly visit to drop off their meals.

Well done to the students who have been able to complete their NAPLAN Reading & Writing tests in the past week, it’s been a bit of challenge with some ICT issues, but our students are showing great persistence.

Lastly, the students have been able to cook up an absolute storm in the kitchen so far this year, they have baked red velvet cupcakes, made woodfire pizzas in Dan’s special oven and made some of the biggest pancakes that you’ll ever see!

McKenzie Creek

Our McKenzie Creek students had a fantastic day at the Wimmera Machinery Field Days. Students practised their social skills by visiting a range of stalls, asking questions, and collecting goodies from various stallholders along the way.

The day was packed with hands-on activities and new experiences. Some students tried woodwork for the first time, while others explored the inner workings of ambulances and Royal Flying Doctor service planes. The race car simulator was a huge hit with the whole crew! Students also attended a wildlife show featuring a variety of snakes and learned about snakebite first aid. Of course, they also took in the impressive display of agricultural machinery on offer.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students showcased our school values throughout the day.
