The Greater Western Region Tennis competition was held in Ballarat on the 4th of March, bringing together talented school teams from across the region. The day featured strong performances from all three teams representing Horsham College. The Senior Boys team had a particularly busy schedule, competing against four other teams throughout the tournament. With excellent teamwork, skill, and determination, the boys managed to win all of their matches and finish the day as overall winners.
The Senior Girls and Intermediate Girls teams also had fantastic results. Both teams played against one opposing team and delivered impressive performances on the court. The Senior Girls team played confidently and secured a convincing win, while the Intermediate Girls team also showed great effort and sportsmanship to take home the victory.
All 3 teams have advanced to the State Level Tennis which will be held in Melbourne in May.
The Horsham College Senior Boys Cricket team travelled to Ballarat on Wednesday March 4 to compete in the Greater Western Region Finals at Victoria Park. Facing strong opposition from Trinity College, Mount Clear College, Mercy Regional College, Mortlake College and Emmanuel College, the team represented the school with determination and pride throughout the day.
Horsham College opened the day against Mercy Regional College in a competitive contest. The boys battled hard and showed great composure at the crease, finishing with 107 runs in a solid team batting performance. Mercy RC were able to chase the total, finishing on 123, but Horsham remained competitive throughout the match.
In their second match, Horsham College faced Emmanuel College, another strong side in the competition. Emmanuel posted 116 runs, setting Horsham a challenging target. The boys continued to fight hard in the field and with the bat, never dropping their intensity or commitment despite the tough opposition.
Although the results did not fall Horsham College’s way on the day, the team should be extremely proud of reaching the Greater Western Region stage. Qualifying for this level is a significant achievement and places the team among the top school cricket sides across western Victoria.
The day provided valuable experience for the group, who demonstrated excellent teamwork, sportsmanship and resilience across both matches. The players represented Horsham College in a positive manner and should be congratulated for their efforts and the way they supported each other throughout the competition.
Well done to all students involved, and thank you to staff and organisers who helped make the day possible. The experience gained from competing at this level will no doubt benefit the players in future school sporting opportunities.
Horsham College’s Intermediate and Senior Netball teams travelled to St Brigid’s College to compete in a competitive day of interschool netball against a strong field of schools including Marian College, Murtoa College, Stawell Secondary College and Warracknabeal.
Throughout the day, all the Horsham College girls’ teams represented the school with great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship. The Intermediate boys and intermediate and Senior girls battled hard in every game, showing resilience and strong passages of play against quality opposition. While the results didn’t fall our way to progress through to the next stage of the competition, the effort, attitude and improvement displayed across the day was something the teams can be very proud of.
The highlight of the day came from our Senior Boys team, who produced an excellent series of performances to earn their place in the Greater Western Region Finals. The boys played with great intensity and teamwork, executing their skills well and showing strong composure in key moments to secure their progression.
Horsham College congratulates all students who represented the school on the day for their effort, behaviour and sportsmanship. We wish our Senior Boys team the best of luck as they prepare to compete at the Greater Western Region Finals later this month.
