Prayer

"Listen to what the Spirit is saying."

Advent

Advent is a beautiful season, and sometimes all you need is short and simply heartfelt prayers to invite God’s calming presence into our lives amid the busyness of November and December and school holidays. Let these simple prayers ground us in the peace, hope, and love that Christ brings as we prepare our hearts for His coming.

Lord Jesus, as we enter this Advent season, help us cling to the hope You bring. In a world that feels heavy with need, remind us of Your promise to come again and make all things new. Let our hearts be filled with the light of Your presence, leading us closer to You each day.

Amen.

Prince of Peace, settle our hearts in this season of waiting. Where there is tension or fear, bring Your calming presence. May Your peace fill our lives, our homes, and our relationships, drawing us together in unity and love.

 Amen.

God of joy, let us rediscover the wonder of Your love this Advent. Help us to rejoice not just in the gifts we receive, but in the gift of Your Son. May our hearts overflow with gratitude and joy as we look forward to celebrating Your birth.

Amen.

Father, as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Your Son, fill us with Your perfect love. Teach us to see others as You see them, to reach out in kindness, and to share the gift of Your love with those around us. Help us to live in a way that reflects Your heart for the world.

Amen.

Acknowledgment of Country

We turn our hearts and minds to the people of the Yorta Yorta nation, who have occupied this country for thousands of years.

We pay respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging, and commit to walking alongside Aboriginal Australians in truth and justice. Stain Glass Window by 1/2 Jondahl (2024)

The Jubilee Prayer ~ Pope Francis

Father in heaven,

may the faith you have given us

in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,

and the flame of charity enkindled

in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,

reawaken in us the blessed hope

for the coming of your Kingdom.

May your grace transform us

into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.

May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos

in the sure expectation

of a new heaven and a new earth,

when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,

your glory will shine eternally.

May the grace of the Jubilee

reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,

a yearning for the treasures of heaven.

May that same grace spread

the joy and peace of our Redeemer

throughout the earth.

To you our God, eternally blessed,

be glory and praise for ever. Amen.

As we anticipate the year ahead, we are all invited along for the journey. No one is left out, left behind or not included. Can you imagine the incredible opportunities that lie ahead? Can you sense how much you will learn, grow and contribute to the lives of others this year?

As pilgrims, we are privileged to walk the same journey as Jesus did thousands of years ago. He brought hope and light to those who others ignored or brushed aside. Jesus took great risks to ground his pilgrimage in God’s love. This became his centre, his guide and his compass. This year, we are all called to journey towards the light that we experience in his presence and God’s promise of equity, justice and compassion.

How can you be a pilgrim who brings hope to others this year?
