Student Health & Medication

New Medical Management Policy
A new Medical Management Policy to help schools manage student health care needs, and duty of care for those with a diagnosed medical condition has been introduced by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools. Any diagnosed medical condition requires a Medical Management Plan. This includes conditions (but not limited to) including heart conditions, brain injury, anxiety and autism. The Medical Management Plan is to be completed by the student’s treating doctor. Some medical conditions already have a specific medical management plan, such as anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes and epilepsy, and do not require the additional Medical Management Plan.
Short term over the counter medication such as Panadol can only be administered over a few days and must have a Medication Authority Form, which Parents / Carers must complete and submit to the College. For safety, students cannot self-administer medication.
For any medication to be administered during school hours, a Medication Authority Form must be completed and attached to the Medical Management Plan. Asthma medication and adrenaline auto-injectors for anaphylaxis are unrestricted and do not require a Medication Authority Form.
