Cassia 1 & 2 News

SOPHIE NUGENT, LETETIA POLYCHRONOPOULOS & MAIKA MCGUIRK-HANSON

It has been a wonderful, wet, and playful fortnight in Cassia. The garden is alive right now; everything is green and growing, and there is water everywhere! With so much water around, the children have been naturally drawn to it in their play. In the garden, we encourage all sorts of wet and explorative play, especially when we don’t see this kind of rain often. When it is wet and muddy, as it has been lately, it is a good idea to put extra changes of clothes, gum boots, and rain jackets in the children’s bags to best prepare them for play.

In Cassia, we’ve begun our new morning circle together. The children have loved learning new songs, verses and movements together. There’s always something special about the start of a new circle with new songs to learn and make our own, and it’s been beautiful to watch their confidence grow each day as familiar parts begin to settle in. Their smiles and giggles in the morning are so contagious.

In their play, we’ve been noticing early numeracy gently weaving its way through the children’s discoveries. Counting games are popping up naturally, little fingers carefully touching and counting treasures, friends gathering special collections of stones or leaves, and small groups sorting and comparing their finds. These moments might look simple, but they are building strong foundations through meaningful play.

Thank you to everyone who had planned to join us for the Working Bee. Unfortunately, we’ve had to cancel it for now, but it will be rescheduled in Term 2. We’ll share the new date as soon as it’s confirmed. We’re so grateful for your willingness to support our space; it truly makes all the difference to the environment that the children enjoy each day.

Garden day is starting on Friday, week 6. It is a great day for the older children in Cassia to get some extra time in the garden for deeper play, storytelling and exploration. Maika will be with us for Garden Day in weeks 6 and 7. A reminder that Garden Day is 8:30 am to 1 pm, finishing the day with lunch under the mulberry tree.

Looking forward to another wonderful fortnight.

With warmth,

Maika
