Middle Learning Community

We have had a busy fortnight in the MLC. We finished off our swimming program and had a fantastic day at the Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 11th. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing all students participating in the activities and events, and students showing encouragement and support towards their peers.
Congratulations to Lawson, Callum and Darby for representing the 9/10-year-old boys and Claire, Sienna, Poppy & Zaria for representing the 9/10-year-old girls at Division Swimming in Shepparton.
On Tuesday, 17th students participated in Shrove Tuesday where we gathered as a whole school community for a liturgy and then students shared pancakes to prepare for the season of Lent. On Wednesday, 18th students gathered as a whole school community for Ash Wednesday Mass, marking the beginning of Lent.
Year 3
It has been a busy couple of weeks in Year 3. The children have been very flexible whilst we have had different teachers in our learning space. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr. Brown at the start of the week and are all looking forward to his return in Week 6. The children have been enjoying reading ‘Matilda’, there has been lots of laughter as we compare events that happen throughout the book compared to here at St. Joseph’s. Lately, we have been focusing on ‘Active Listening’. The students loved showing this skill through our listening game – where one person was blindfolded and had to guess who was speaking. Even the teachers found this to be tricky!
Just reminding families to please encourage independence with your child – especially around them packing their own drink bottles, fruit and reader folders.
Year 4
We have been reading our class novel Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. We have been writing persuasive pieces on Living on an Island and Sailing Around the World. In Math's, we have finished our Addition and Subtraction unit and have now started our Fractions unit. We have been looking at halves, quarters, thirds, fifths, and tenths.
