Foundation Learning Community

We are very proud of how the children enter the learning space each morning and prepare for the day ahead. This week, we introduced a ‘check-in’ with the teacher, during which the students changed their books for home reading and demonstrated how they write their names. You can find your child’s check-in day on their reading folder. (We will catch up with the Wednesday check-ins on Thursdays.) 

Routines 

We have worked hard to establish routines and expectations in our learning spaces. The children are becoming familiar with the morning routine, which includes putting their blue folders in the tub and placing their fruit and drink bottles on the table. They are enjoying the morning song, which helps us get ready for learning. 

Mathematics 

Over the past two weeks, we have been focusing on making patterns and practicing counting. We will now move on to naming the days of the week and sequencing events. We are also introducing number games and discussing our expectations for playing them. 

Literacy 

A lot has happened in Literacy over the past few weeks! We have been segmenting words into sounds and blending them back together to identify the words. We have explored rhyming words and counted syllables. These skills are essential foundations for learning to read. 

Next week, we are excited to learn about our first letter, M (both its name and sound), along with the character Maggie Mouse. Whenever a new letter is introduced, we will add it to your child’s keyring, which they will bring home in their reading folder. 

Religion 

In Religion, we are learning to pray together. We have been learning about the items on our prayer table and why they are important in this sacred space.
