Principal's Report

Farewell Debby Chaves (Foundation Principal)
It is with mixed emotions that we announce that our Foundation Principal, Debby Chaves, is leaving Beaumaris Secondary College to take up a well-deserved position as a Senior Education Improvement Leader.
Since the college’s foundation, Debby has been instrumental in shaping our school community, guiding us with dedication, passion and vision. Debby is an inspiring and innovative educator whose leadership has left an indelible mark on our students, staff and families. We are incredibly grateful for her commitment to excellence and growth in all our students and staff, and for the strong connections she has embedded within our community.
A Farewell Assembly will be held on Wednesday 2 April at 2.20pm in the Activity Centre (Gym) to celebrate and honour her outstanding leadership and contributions to our school. We hope you can join us. Please CLICK HERE to RSVP by Monday 31 March, to assist with seating arrangements.
We wish Debby every success in this exciting new chapter and remain eternally grateful for her outstanding contribution in leading the establishment of our wonderful college.
Staffing Update
We are delighted to welcome the following new staff members:
Caitlyn Bayley | Mathematics & Healthy Lifestyles |
Rory Hannaford | Learning Support |
Debating
Thank you to Melissa Casley for her ongoing support, coaching our students during lunchtime and attending debates in the evenings. Her time and effort certainly paid off last week when our Year 10 team — Skyla F, Charlie B and Gemma H — won against Firbank. Congratulations, girls!
NAPLAN Testing
NAPLAN testing for our Year 7 and 9 students is now complete. Thank you to Deb Kirk and the team for their outstanding work, contributing to the success of this testing period. Results will be posted home to families later in the year.
Year 7 High Abilities Information Evening
We are committed to constantly seeking opportunities for all of our students to learn and grow according to their individual needs. It was wonderful to see the parents of our Year 7 students who were identified from internal testing and/or primary teacher feedback as highly able students in literacy, numeracy, or both at our High Abilities Information Evening last night. The session outlined current and future opportunities for high-ability students at Beaumaris, and information on how to apply for them for 2025 and beyond.
Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews & Progress Reports
We will be holding Parent-Student-Teacher interviews online on Thursday 3 April from 11am to 7pm. Please see Compass for details. These conferences provide a valuable opportunity for you to engage with your child's teachers and discuss their progress. Please note students are required to attend the conferences with their parents/carers (there are no scheduled classes or supervision on this day).
The next cycle of Progress Reports will be published on Tuesday 1 April. Progress Reports serve as a crucial checkpoint, offering a snapshot of your child's progress, highlighting areas of achievement and potential growth.
We encourage all parents and carers to review these reports carefully and engage in constructive discussions with your child and their teachers. Your involvement plays a pivotal role in supporting your child's academic success.
A notification will be sent when the Progress Reports are available on Compass.
The Arts are Alive and Well at Beaumaris
We are proud to offer our students a range of exciting opportunities in the performing arts. Auditions were held after school this week for our 2025 College Production of Puffs (or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic) and our Unit 3 Theatre Studies students are gearing up for their performances of The Actor’s Nightmare next week. Thank you to Rachel Price for her leadership and dedication in making these opportunities possible, and to Charlotte O'Malley and Zoe Irvine for their support in bringing our 2025 College Production to life.
Thank You
A big thank you to parent Richard Hordejuk for generously repairing the basketball goal in the Activity Centre at no cost to BSC. We truly appreciate your contribution to our college.
Canteen Payment & Mobile Phone Policy
A reminder that mobile phone payments are not accepted at the canteen, in line with our Mobile Phone Policy. Students must use an EFTPOS card or cash when making purchases. Additionally, please note that the Department of Education requires all students to switch off and securely put away their mobile phones during school hours. Each student’s phone can be safely stored in their locker, which has a permanent fixed lock. This policy is mandated across all government schools in the state. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this policy with your child.
End-of-Term Reminders
As we approach the end of Term 1, please note that students will be dismissed at 2:30pm on Friday 4 April. Term 2 commences on Tuesday 22 April, following Easter Monday, and there is a public holiday on Friday 25 April, for ANZAC Day.
Thank you for your continued support.
