Child Safe Standard 8 – Equipping Staff and Volunteers to Keep Children Safe

Child Safe Standard 8 focuses on ensuring that all staff and volunteers have the knowledge, skills and confidence to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training. This includes recognising signs of harm, knowing how to respond to concerns or disclosures, understanding reporting responsibilities, and creating culturally safe environments for all children.

At St Michael’s, child safety is an ongoing shared responsibility. We regularly provide staff with training, updates and opportunities to revisit our child safety policies and procedures so that safeguarding is embedded in everyday practice. Volunteers are also provided with information and guidance appropriate to their role.

By ensuring the adults in our community are informed, supported and confident to act, we strengthen a culture where children feel safe, heard, respected and protected.

Each month for the next ten months we will spotlight each of the 11 Child Safety Standards. MACS has developed resources  to support a deepened understanding of the standards for parents and teachers and how they help support the safety of each child.
