English
Students have been developing their reading and writing skills through a focus on author studies, personal writing, and reviews. They have explored the craft of authors and illustrators, analysing how writers and creators use language and visual features to engage readers and convey meaning. As part of their author study, students have explored texts by Dean Rankine and Tristan Bancks, identifying common features of their styles and experimenting with these techniques in their own writing. They have investigated Dean Rankine’s use of comic and graphic storytelling techniques, visual humour, exaggeration, and expressive illustrations, as well as Tristan Bancks’ use of character perspective, fast-paced narratives, humour, and suspense to develop engaging stories.
Students continue to participate in Book Clubs this term, engaging in thoughtful discussions about characters and key ideas in their new chosen books. Students have also set individual reading fluency goals, working towards improving their accuracy, expression, and reading rate. They continue to practise these goals, building confidence and increasing the number of words they can read accurately per minute.
Maths
Students have been developing their understanding of multiplication and division through a range of problem-solving and reasoning activities. They have explored the relationship between multiplication and division as inverse operations, developed strategies for multiplying and dividing larger numbers, and strengthened their understanding of factors, multiples, and divisibility. They have been selecting efficient mental and written strategies, using digital tools where appropriate, and applying their knowledge to solve real-world problems while checking the reasonableness of their answers.
Students have also been building their understanding of measurement, with a focus on angles, length, mass, capacity, and time. They have explored relationships between angles, and applied their reasoning to determine unknown measurements. Students have continued to develop accuracy when converting between metric units, selecting suitable units of measurement, and solving practical problems involving elapsed time, timetables, and 12- and 24-hour time systems. They have set new individual Mathematics learning goals, reflect on their progress, and identify areas for growth as they strengthen their mathematical understanding and confidence.
Inquiry
Students have been exploring economics, business, and enterprise through their Market Day project. To inspire their business ideas, they visited Dandenong Market and the Yakult Factory, gaining valuable insights into marketing, production, and customer engagement.
Working in groups, students have designed products, pitched their ideas to a panel of teacher 'investors', and refined their businesses by developing branding, marketing strategies, pricing, and production plans. Through this authentic learning experience, students have strengthened their creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills.

Interschool Sports
This term, Year 6 students have commenced Winter Interschool Sports, competing against other schools each Friday in volleyball, Hot Shots tennis, basketball, and softball. At the beginning of the term, the girls' soccer team also had the opportunity to play two matches against Dandenong South Primary School and Sirius College. Students have embraced these opportunities to develop their skills, demonstrate teamwork, and represent the school with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
Year 5 students have been working a proj, creating stop-motion animations. Through planning, designing, filming, and editing their own animations, students have developed their creativity, collaboration, and digital skills. They look forward to presenting their finished projects at the end of the term.
