Book Week update!

August 16-23 was Book Week, celebrating Australian Award winning books promoted by The Children’s Book Council of Australia, a National not for profit, volunteer-run organisation that aims to engage the community with literature for young Australians.

BMGS engaged by holding a book parade in both Junior Schools (with great costumes from both students and staff!), hosting an author visit with Naomi Crew, creating classroom door displays, and reading shortlisted books to participate in the Shadow Judging Awards for the first time! BMGS were among approx. 400 groups of students who participated in the Shadow Judging this year. Copies of Naomi’s book “Bowers of blue” were obtained and are now ready to borrow from both JS Libraries.

In both JS Libraries, student book reviews were part of the great displays set up by Dr Elissa Drew (a big Thank you Dr Drew!), who is working in the JS Libraries during term 3. The theme for this year’s Book Week was “Book an adventure”, which the displays illustrated very well! A full suitcase of shortlisted books inside the front door at JSW Library, with miniature cardboard suitcases hung around the  door frames and front circulation desk. Groups of shortlisted books for each primary level category were on display in both JS Libraries, while the Senior LRC also had the Older Readers group of shortlisted books on display, along with past winners and honour books held in the collection.

The Shadow Judging site also has the Creative Responses and Gallery that other schools submitted to the CBCA to highlight their favourite shortlisted book. Some really interesting submissions to see!  Shadow Judging - CBCA 2025 Results
