From the

Head of  Senior School

Dear BMGS Senior School Community,

On Wednesday, 27th August, we came together as a community to mark a significant occasion in the life of our School—the Student Leadership Induction Assembly. This ceremony is not only an opportunity to acknowledge those who have been chosen to lead but also a moment to reflect on what it truly means to serve with humility and purpose.

Leadership within our School is a sacred trust. It is not conferred through titles or badges alone, but through daily acts of integrity, courage, and service. Our new leaders have been recognised because they embody these qualities: they have demonstrated a willingness to place the needs of others before their own, to act with compassion, and to uphold the values that unite us.

The words of the Apostle Paul to the Philippians offer us a profound model for leadership:

"Make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness." — Philippians 2:2–7

This passage reminds us that leadership is not about seeking recognition or privilege, but about service—leading with humility, with unity, and with love. It calls each of us, and especially our newly inducted leaders, to adopt a servant heart: to listen, to support, and to guide others for the flourishing of the whole community.

To our new leaders, I offer my heartfelt congratulations. You have earned this responsibility, and you now stand at the beginning of a journey that will both challenge and transform you. Lead with empathy, seek wisdom, and be steadfast in upholding the values of our School.

To the student body, I ask that you walk alongside your leaders, encouraging them, sharing your voice with them, and supporting their efforts as they seek to represent you faithfully. And to our parents, I extend my deepest thanks for the guidance and encouragement you have given your children as they step into this new chapter of service.

May this year of leadership be one of growth, inspiration, and service to others. We look forward with anticipation to the impact our leaders will make and to the enduring legacy they will leave.

Warm regards,

Alicia Michielsen
