Asthma
Does your child have asthma? If the answer is yes now is the time for all parents to provide the school with a new asthma plan in accordance with the Department of Education and WHSC polices.
Asthma Plan template attached - please print in colour (not black and white)
Allergies
If your child has been listed as having an allergy then please provide an updated ASCIA Allergic Reactions Plan (Green). It is important and it is a requirement of the Department of Education for parents to provide a current allergy plan if their child is allergic to foods, insects and environmental factors.

Allergy Aware
The college would like to remind parents/carers and students the importance of not sending nuts or food containing nuts to school. There is an increasing number of students who have either anaphylaxis or allergies related to varying foods.
At WHSC we prefer to use an “Allergy Aware” approach which focuses on implementing a range of appropriate risk minimisation strategies is recommended.
All our staff are trained in anaphylaxis and allergy reactions; staff do not use food rewards in class activities. Our educators in the food technology area plan cooking teachings around cooking with contents that may cause a reaction.
I encourage if your child does have a food related allergy and/or anaphylaxis that you regularly discuss with them not to share foods from an unknown source or a friend, classmates or if unsure of what the contents is in a food item.
Finally, as we near the end of term illness starts to be more noticeable amongst students - coughs, colds and reported cases of both influenza A & B.
I encourage if your child is ill or feeling unwell in the morning to keep them home and give them time to recover. Doing this assists in preventing further spreading of virus' on to other students and staff – warmer days are just around the corner!
