Term 2 Week 4 Newsletter

Welcome to Week 4 Everyone,

Parent Reading Night

We would like to warmly welcome our Kindergarten parents, (and new Year 1 and Year 2 parents) to attend  our Parent Reading Night next Wednesday the 28th May at 6:00pm.

This is a valuable and practical evening where you will discover exactly how we teach and support your child to become a balanced reader. In the mini-workshops we will also focus on the many ways you can assist your child with their reading development at home that support our teaching of reading at school. We have targeted our Infants grades for these workshops because ensuring that students are reaching their reading benchmarks in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 is such a strong predictor for success in primary, where they require age appropriate reading and comprehension skills to thrive in all areas of the curriculum. We look forward to seeing you there.

Kindergarten Interviews

Over the next three weeks our leadership team will be conducting our 2026 Kindergarten Enrolment interviews. This is always an exciting time for our new and current families. We are really looking forward to walking our new students and families around our learning spaces and giving them the feeling of warmth and belonging that we all feel as part of St Nicholas school.

Catholic Schools Week

Next week (Week 5) we celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Catholic Schools Week this year is particularly special as it is also a Jubilee year, declared by Pope Francis, carrying the theme  Pilgrims of Hope. This theme of hope is particularly relevant in our world at this time. With the cost of living crisis, various international conflicts and political unrest affecting societies right across the world, the message of hope carries extra significance.

Fr Timothy Radcliff said of hope:

“ Teaching is a beautiful expression of our hope for the young….every catholic school is a sacrament of hope”

Below are some of the ways our school and Diocese will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week.

Monday 26th May- Launch of CSW & Tamworth Staff Spirituality Day at McCarthy (PUPIL FREE DAY for all Tamworth schools)

Wednesday 28th May - Catholic Schools Week Mass & Spirit of Catholic Education Awards in Armidale

Thursday 29th May - Chess Carnival at St Edwards

Friday 30th May-  ACS Primary Gary McSweeney Memorial Cup & Rugby Union Trials Tamworth

 Winter Uniform

Even though we are still experiencing some beautiful, mild autumn weather, all students should now be wearing their full winter uniform. Please note that this includes a school tie. If you are in need of any items, please come in and visit our clothing pool as we have many donated uniforms for both boys and girls.

P&F Pie Drive

I would like to say a big thankyou to our P&F for organising the Pie Drive. And thankyou to all our families who supported this fundraiser by purchasing pies. I’m sure they will be enjoyed now the weather is cooling off.

Have a great week everyone,
