Welcome back to Term 4!
Welcome back to Term 4! We hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable break. We are so excited for the warmer days and beautiful spring weather, with lots of exciting learning opportunities and activities coming up this term. We look forward to another fantastic term filled with learning, growth and fun!
Maths
In Maths, we have been learning about space and location, with a focus on reading, interpreting and creating maps. Students have been exploring how maps can be used to represent different places and help us understand where things are located in relation to one another. They have been developing their understanding of directional language and using words to describe positions, locations and pathways. The students have particularly enjoyed creating their own maps and taking turns giving and following directions to guide their classmates from one place to another. These fun, hands-on activities have encouraged students to think carefully, communicate clearly and build their spatial awareness. They are becoming more confident in using maps and directions to navigate their surroundings — important skills to help them find their way around the world!
Humanities
In Humanities, we have been exploring Indigenous Australia and learning about the different Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Countries across Australia. Students are developing their understanding of Australia's geography, as well as the rich histories, cultures and connections to Country of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
As part of our learning, students explored the Garma Festival and discovered the meaning of Bukmak, which refers to a Yolŋu concept of collective work and working together. We discussed the importance of community, cooperation and coming together to celebrate culture, share knowledge and learn from one another.
Through these discussions, students have been reflecting on the importance of belonging and how being part of a community helps us feel connected, valued and included. We explored how everyone has a role to play in creating a welcoming community where people feel respected and supported. Through class discussions, videos and hands-on activities, students are building their knowledge of the world around them and developing a deeper appreciation for Australia's diverse cultural heritage.
