Little Learners

What We Learned Through Play
What a lovely fortnight we have had in Little Learners! The children have continued to settle beautifully into our school environment, routines and expectations. It has also been wonderful to see their friendships continuing to develop. We are seeing more and more of our Little Learners playing together, sharing ideas and having little conversations with one another. We have also been talking about our All Saints baseline behaviours, Be Fair, Show Care and Reflect Respect, using simple scenarios to help the children understand what these behaviours look and sound like. It has been lovely to hear them using these words during their play.
With the beautiful weather, we have also enjoyed spending lots of time outdoors, including Munch and Crunch in the Memorial Garden, chalk drawing, exploring the garden, searching for bugs and, of course, plenty of mud-pie and bakery adventures!
Learning Through Literacy, Mathematics and Art
Our literacy focus has included reading Wacky Wednesday by Dr Seuss, where the children loved searching for and counting all the wacky things on each page. We also introduced our fist-on-the-chest and thumbs-up strategy, helping the children practise waiting for their turn and giving everyone a chance to share their ideas. In mathematics, the children have continued counting and sorting with tongs, using the fabulous resources from our local toy library, which are also fantastic for developing hand strength, fine motor control and hand-eye coordination. We have also been creating patterns and dinosaurs using shapes, carefully rotating and fitting the shapes together to recreate the pictures. Our Gruffalo art has continued with the children now creating the woodland setting using leaves, sticks and other natural materials collected from the garden. We even made our own mud paint! As always, the children’s learning has continued to happen through a wonderful mix of planned activities and spontaneous play, with lots of opportunities to explore, imagine, problem solve, communicate and work together.
