School Band Performance

Our talented School Band was invited to perform at Narrabri High School’s recent MAD Night. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the chance to perform at the High School and showcase their musical talents. A huge thank you to Narrabri High School for the invitation and for hosting such a fantastic night of entertainment. Well done to all involved!

Brain Olympia

Our students had a fantastic day competing at Brain Olympia in Walgett. They put their knowledge, creativity and teamwork to the test!

The competition challenged students with trivia across English, HSIE, Science, History and current events, followed by a public speaking challenge on “AI’s Impact on Our Future”. They then tackled complex maths problems before finishing the day with a fun drama skit based around the line, “Whatever you do, don’t press the red button!”

Our teams showed outstanding effort, collaboration and determination throughout the day. 

Well done to all students! 

CPR Training Session

Recently our Stage 3 students took part in an important CPR training session. Guided by a

 skilled instructor, Mr Cameron McFarlane from Royal Life Saving Australia, they learned how to perform a critical skill that could one day help save a life. The hands-on experience was both fun and educational, with students practicing chest compressions and learning how to respond in an emergency. 

Thank you Mr McFarlane for visiting our school and empowering our students who could one day make a difference in someone's life. 

Staff also participated in a Professional Development CPR and Anaphylaxis training session with Mr McFarlane. We take the opportunity to refresh these important skills each year. 

Dance Week

Dance Week is always an exciting time for our students as we welcomed two returning visiting choreographers. The wonderful local talents of Miss Lauren Grant, owner of In Motion Dance Studio as well as Aleeta Northey, who has been credited with working on shows such as: So You Think You Can Dance, TV Week Logie Awards, NRL Grand Finals and Music Videos.

During their dance week, students worked with their choreographer each day to learn and perfect their routines for this year’s Dance Extravaganza.

Our final whole school dance rehearsal will take place at The Crossing Theatre tomorrow, Tuesday 22 September, ahead of the evening performance tomorrow night.

We can’t wait to see the show come together and look forward to welcoming everyone tomorrow night!

2026 Primary AEA Retreat

Miss Maddy and Miss Kristie travelled to St Joseph’s Primary School in Walgett recently to attend the 2026 Primary Aboriginal Education Assistant Retreat. The retreat began with a beautiful Welcome Dance performed by the students. Due to heavy rainfall, the planned visit to the culturally significant Narran Lakes could not proceed. Instead, Aunty Brenda McBride, Aunty Rhonda Ashby and Uncle Jason Wilson brought Country to us through an engaging yarn about the cultural significance and importance of Narran Lakes. We then reflected on our own stories by decorating beautiful coolamons.

On the second day, we gathered at Freedom Ride Park, where we were welcomed by Aunty Mary Purse, before returning to St Joseph’s to celebrate Cultural Learning Plans and explore Corey Tutt’s book Come Home, Bigibila in preparation for Indigenous Literacy Day. 

It was a highly engaging and professionally enriching retreat, and we look forward to bringing our newfound knowledge and skills back to our school community.

NAIDOC Week

This term, we were joined by families and members of our school community to celebrate NAIDOC Week!

Students dressed in the colours of the Aboriginal flag, red, yellow and black, and attended a whole school assembly hosted by Miss Maddy, Miss Kristie and our Stage 3 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.

The 2026 theme, “50 Years of Deadly,” celebrates five decades of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture, excellence, strength and community leadership across Australia.

Merit Awards were presented to one Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student from each year group who continues to demonstrate a strong connection to culture, community and learning. 

Congratulations to our recipients: Remie Johnson, Zeb Johnson, Arlo Cathcart, Hallie Booby, Braxton Gordon, Parker Slack-Smith and Amalia Suckling.

The Perpetual NAIDOC Award was also presented to a Year 6 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, commitment to learning and a positive attitude towards school.

A huge congratulations to this year’s recipient - Emily Ross. 

Following assembly, Uncle Mick and Uncle Joe cut the NAIDOC cake that was served to staff, visitors and students. 

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this wonderful celebration of culture, achievement and community. 

All classes participated in a Deadliest Door artwork competition. Well done everyone and congratulations to 6 Green who placed first and won a pot plant for their classroom. Well done also to 6 Yellow who received second and 1 Yellow who received third place.  

Father's Day Breakfast

Thank you to all the wonderful fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other special men who joined us for our annual Father’s Day Breakfast. It was lovely to see so many families come together to enjoy delicious bacon and egg rolls and spend time together as a school community.

A special thank you to everyone who generously donated eggs and our staff who helped prepare for the day, cooked the breakfast rolls and served tea and coffee. 

Support Staff Appreciation Week

We took the opportunity to celebrate Support Staff Appreciation Week and thank you our wonderful staff for the contribution they make to our school each day.

Garden Club

Spring has truly sprung in our garden! The sunshine has brought the poppies into full bloom

 and perfect conditions for planting our corn.

Our Kindergarten boys have been hard at work, proudly harvesting a bumper crop of turnips. Meanwhile, the beetroot is growing fast and almost ready to pull. Our carrots are thriving and will make a delicious treat for our upcoming Kindergarten Transition visits, showing our newest students what makes garden club so special.

Thank you to all our enthusiastic young gardeners for keeping the plants so green and healthy!

Year 6 Narrabri High School Transition session

On Wednesday 9th September, fifteen of our Year 6 students took another exciting step toward high school by attending their second transition session at Narrabri High School. 

The day was packed with fun, giving our students a true taste of the fantastic subjects and facilities awaiting them next year. Throughout the day, they participated in four hands-on classes: 

• Food Technology: Budding chefs got busy in the kitchen, cooking up some truly delicious pizzas.
• Visual Arts: Creativity was on full display as students designed unique art pieces inspired by the "Can Man."
• Woodwork: Students stepped into the workshop to build their very own wooden toolbox, even getting to use a high-tech laser cutter to etch their names onto the side!

• School Scavenger Hunt: To ensure they won't get lost next year, everyone teamed up for a fast-paced scavenger hunt to explore the school and familiarise themselves with the layout.

   

It was a wonderful day filled with big smiles, new skills, and plenty of opportunities to make new friends.

Stage 3 Science Excursion

Last Tuesday, our Stage 3 students enjoyed an engaging, hands-on learning experience during their excursion to the University of Sydney’s I.A. Watson Grains Research Centre for the School Field Day. 

Students were immersed in a dynamic series of interactive workshops led by researchers and industry experts, rotating through sessions dedicated to wheat hybridisation, soil science, drone technology, and modern farm machinery.

To round out the fantastic day, everyone was treated to a delicious BBQ lunch. The excursion proved to be a memorable, practical experience that deepened their appreciation for regional primary industries and hopefully sparked curiosity about future pathways in STEM and agricultural innovation. 

St Mary's College Transition

Last week, fourteen eager Year 6 students travelled aboard the SMC bus to St Mary’s College in Gunnedah for their first Year 7 transition day.

Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of engaging lessons. In Science, they used simple chemical solutions to identify substances in Petri dishes and are looking forward to earning their Bunsen burner licences during their next visit.

During Music, students used cups to create a song and played a range of xylophones, from bass to alto and soprano. They also enjoyed a friendly game of volleyball, with the boys narrowly defeating the girls by scoring the final point.

Students were then taken on a guided tour of the school, where they explored the main areas they will use in Year 7, including the break areas, canteen and basketball courts.

The day concluded with a delicious lunch of pizza, a drink and an icy pole before students boarded the bus for the journey home to Narrabri.

It was an exciting first introduction to secondary school, and our students are looking forward to their next visit!

Year 4 Lake Keepit Excursion

Last Thursday and Friday, our Year 4 students enjoyed two action-packed days at Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre.

Throughout the excursion, students challenged themselves, developed new skills and worked together while participating in:

• Mud Run
• Canoeing 
• The always-popular giant slip ’n’ slide
• BMX riding
• Archery

On Thursday evening, they joined Narrabri West Public School to play ball games in the hall. 

It was wonderful to see everyone embracing each activity with enthusiasm!

Thank you to our dedicated staff and the Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre team for making the excursion such an enjoyable and memorable experience!

We are thrilled to announce that all 300 raffle tickets were sold!

All funds raised from the raffle as well as the Athletics Carnival canteen will assist with the cost of the Year 6 excursion to Canberra next term. A huge thank you to Kristen Greentree for organising the raffle and to Brighid Campbell for coordinating the canteen at the Athletics Carnival.
