John XXIII Rowing Club

Dear Rowing Families
The has been plenty of racing in the last few weeks of term, with the 4th IGSSA Regatta and the 1st AllSchools regatta held on the weekend.
This coming weekend, our girls’ squad race in the Head of the River, the culmination of months of training and racing and for a large group of our rowers, our Year 12s last Head of the River campaign comes to an end.
The boys’ squad takes to unfamiliar waters as they compete in a long-distance race, the Guildford to Garrett Road race on Sunday morning.
I’m sure both squads are excited and a little daunted by the events, however, they have prepared well and we wish them every success on the water!
Our Year 8s performed exceptionally well at the All Schools Regatta last Sunday, along with the boys’ squad. The Year 8s get another opportunity to race in the upcoming All Schools Regatta on Saturday, 27 June. Sign up for the boys’ squad, and the Year 8s are linked below.
IGSSA Regatta
The penultimate IGGSA regatta on Saturday saw a bit of breeze test the crews, but our crews showed great spirit and, despite the change in crew make-up due to Music Camp.
Our results were:
| Senior A Quad Scull | 6th |
| Senior A Single Scull – Lily | 1st |
| Senior B Single Scull – Camilla | 2nd |
| Senior B Single Scull – Liv | 4th |
| Freshman Coxed 8 | 4th |
| Junior B Single Scull – Harmony | 4th |
| Freshman Quad Scull A | 2nd |
| Freshman Quad Scull B | 4th |
| First Coxed 8 | 6th |
We wish all JTC Girls and crews the best for the Head of River and we can’t wait to see you on the water. If you can’t make it out to the Head of the River, you can watch all the action on the livestream here: IGSSA Head Of The River 2026
All Schools Regatta
Our boys’ squad and Year 8s took to the water on Sunday for their first regatta this year. The breeze was a little pesky cross-headwind, but our crews handled it well, and the regatta ran smoothly.
With a few students out for Music Camp, some combinations hadn’t rowed together much, but all crews did a great job in their races. Our attention turns to the long-distance Guildford to Garrett Road this weekend and All Schools Regatta #2 on Saturday 27 June.
Sign up for the All Schools and Mettams regatta is here: Regatta sign up
Please do this ASAP as entries are due on Monday 22 June.
