Dear Families

St Louis House Day

This week saw the celebration of St Louis House Day, an occasion to mark the significance of one of our College Founders, Mary Saint Aloysius Gonzaga. Born in 1568 to a noble Italian family, Aloysius Gonzaga renounced his inheritance to join the Society of Jesus at a young age. Despite his fragile health, he was dedicated to studying theology and caring for the sick, particularly during the plague in Rome. His compassion and selflessness led to his early death at the age of 23 from the plague. Aloysius Gonzaga is remembered for his deep piety and is the patron saint of young students and Christian youth. In our contemporary context, we continue his legacy to encourage students to value the more important things in life, such as purposeful endeavours and supportive relationships.  Thank you to Joe Shaw, St Louis House Coordinator, Homeroom Teachers and St Louis staff for leading students in a range of activities in celebration of the day.

St Louis House Prayer

Lord, help us to be inspired by the example of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga. Help us to value the important things in life such as relationships with others rather than material possessions.

Lord, we thank you for the fortunate life that we have all been bless with. May we appreciate our good health and share it with those less fortunate.

Lord, open our ears and our hearts to the lessons we learn each and every day. May these lessons bring us closer to you.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord, and with the intercession of our founders:

Pope John XXIII               Pray for us

Ignatius of Loyola           Pray for us

Mary Ward                      Pray for us

Year 11 students returned from their exams this week, and on Monday they participated in the meaningful day Id Quod Volo: That which I desire in my deepest and truest self. Drawing on inspiration from Christ and our College founders, students spent the day exploring ways to develop their servant leadership, including an afternoon in House groups performing community service. Thank you to Tim Chaney, Assistant Deputy Principal – Year 11, House Coordinators and Homeroom Teachers for organising and supporting students on this important experience of their Year 11 journey.

SPORT

First XVIII - Australian Rules Football

On Wednesday our Senior First XVIII Boys took on Melville Senior High School in a high-quality Eagles Senior School Boys Cup Grand Final, pushing John XXIII College in a fiercely contested match.

The game began with strong intensity, as Melville set the tone early. While they were unable to fully capitalise on the scoreboard, registering a couple of early behinds, their pressure and intent were clear from the outset. JTC, however, remained composed and gradually worked their way into the contest.

Through strong midfield control, JTC began to gain the upper hand. Their ability to win the ball at the source and transition effectively forward resulted in a series of momentum-shifting goals that helped steady the side and build confidence. As the game progressed, John XXIII’s structure and composure began to shine, allowing them to convert their opportunities far more efficiently.

The second half saw JTC lift their pressure around the contest, maintaining intensity and discipline across the ground. Melville continued to challenge, but John XXIII’s consistency and work rate ensured they held control when it mattered most.

In the end, John XXIII College secured the Eagles Senior School Boys Cup Premiership with a strong and well-earned win, finishing 10.1 (61) to 7.7 (49).

A special thank you to Mr Darren Kowal, whose experience and expertise continue to make a significant impact on the program. His guidance is truly invaluable, and all students who have the opportunity to be coached by him are incredibly fortunate.
