Equality, Reconciliation and Social Cohesion: the inspiration of Sir William Deane - Edited by Fr Frank Brennan SJ

Join us for an evening of reflection and conversation as Fr Frank Brennan SJ launches this important new collection of Sir William Deane’s key speeches as Governor-General of Australia.

At a moment when our nation is engaged in profound soul-searching about equality, reconciliation and social cohesion, this book offers timely and essential insights. Sir William Deane was an outstanding jurist and a compassionate leader who championed a fair go for all Australians, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

Sir William and Lady Helen Deane became the nation’s first couple of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

The launch will be officiated by The Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Fr Frank Brennan SJ AO, and Kate Chaney MP (Class of 1991).

Eileen Farrelly

The John XXIII College community mourns the passing of Eileen Farrelly, who passed away on 30 May 2026, aged 102.

Eileen served as Head of Science at Loreto Claremont for many years, and when Loreto College and St Louis School amalgamated to form John XXIII College in 1977, she became Co-ordinator of the St Louis Community – a role she held with great dedication until her retirement at the end of 1982.

In retirement, Eileen moved to the Kimberley, where she supported local artists in recording and authenticating their work. She continued to live with characteristic energy and purpose well into her centenary years – driving herself to swimming, attending two book clubs, and baking for her parish community each week.

Eileen's funeral will be held at St Thomas Catholic Church, Claremont, on Wednesday 17 June at 10.30am.

May she rest in peace
