CHS State Knockout Gala Day

On Wednesday the 30th June our Under 15s Boys Basketball team travelled to Griffith to participate in the South-West gala day as part of the CHS state knockout.

Our first opponent was Leeton High School, and our boys proved far too strong throughout. All players hit the scoreboard on the way to the largest win by an NHS boys basketball team in recent memory. The final score was 107-4, which fully reflected the domination of our boys from start to finish.

Second up was Murrumbidgee-Wade, and we knew we were in for a tougher fight.  Our boys again started strong and built a 10 point lead by half time. In the second half our defence really clamped down as Wade struggled to even get a look at the basket, and we ran away convincing winners 42-14.

This led us to the final of the day against Murrumbidgee-Griffith, who had defeated RAP and Yanco in their pool. We started well and extended our lead to 12 at half time. We couldn't really push on with it as fatigue was setting in, some fresh legs from the bench helped but Griffith was coming back. Up by seven with three minutes to go, our lead was cut to three with 60 seconds on the clock. A fully timed last minute seemed to go on forever, but a couple of steals and fast break layups sealed our victory, 43-36.

Our victorious team will now head to Wagga to play in the Riverina finals, at a date to be confirmed.

Congratulations boys!
