In Year 3 and 4, students will have fun moving and dancing to different music genres. They will be encouraged to perform confidently before classmates and learn how to be a good audience. Students will continue to improve their understanding of rhythms while playing games, singing songs and playing various percussion instruments. We will encourage those with skills learned outside the school to perform for the class. Students will work in groups, creating written rhythm sequences and adding instruments to these compositions.

This term in Music, we will be:

  • writing rhythm sequences for ourselves and others to play
  • creating movement sequences to perform for the class
  • Continuing to build our understanding of the four musical elements: beat, pitch, dynamics, and tempo
  • strengthening our skills in listening, singing, moving, playing, and creating
  • experimenting with percussion instruments

This term in Music, students will expand their knowledge of rhythms and understanding of note values. This will be done in various ways, including whole body movements and bouncing 'high bounce' balls to reflect the length of notes being played. Students will create their own music compositions in a group and choose appropriate instruments for each note value.  They will use xylophones and other percussion instruments to play more complex pieces involving different 'parts' being played at the same time. Participating in short skits, plays and raps will improve confidence when speaking and performing, and we will continue to focus on collaboration and co-operation to create engaging performances.

This term in Music, we will be:

  • playing games to consolidate our understanding of note values
  • reading and playing rhythm sequences with our classmates
  • working together to create interesting instrumental performances
  • rehearsing skits, raps and plays
  • creating our own musical rhythms in small groups
  • composing short melodies on xylophones
  • learning to improvise using instruments, movement, and voice
  • giving honest, constructive feedback to classmates

We are excited for another term full of creativity, collaboration, and fun in Year 5 and 6! 🎶✨
