Term 3: Section News

Primary 1:

What an incredible term it has been for Primary One! Over the past few weeks, our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement, curiosity and growth. A definitive highlight of the term was our spectacular Book Week celebration, where students fully immersed themselves in the magical world of literature.

The school transformed into a living storybook as students dressed up as their favourite book characters. Students explored stories through hands-on activities. A favourite was our interactive exploration of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Using a special caterpillar puppet, our readers delighted in watching him "munch" through all of the delicious food. We all enjoyed watching as the caterpillar grew bigger and bigger until he transformed into a stunning butterfly.

Primary 2:

What a busy term it has been for Primary 2. It has been wonderful to see our students continue to develop their independence and as well as their love of learning.

This term, classrooms had lots of fun studying the properties of solids, liquids and gases as part of our science program, exploring various materials through hands on experiments. Some of our students participated in the Canine Comprehension program, where they were able to work with a therapy dog team each week, building on their confidence and self regulation skills. Our students have also continued to enjoy participating in daily shared reading experiences as well as new and exciting writing programs!

Secondary:

It has been a busy and exciting term for our Secondary students, with lots of opportunities to learn, connect and have fun both in and out of the classroom.

Our students have enjoyed a range of camp and outdoor learning experiences, including our camp at Blackwood and a day camp at Clifford Park. These experiences provided students with opportunities to develop independence, build friendships, try new activities and practise important life skills in different environments.

In the classroom, students have been developing their mathematical thinking through learning about size and value. They have been exploring how we can use data and information to make decisions, linking their learning to meaningful, real-world situations.

Literacy has also been a strong focus. Students have been working on developing their writing skills and exploring different ways to communicate their ideas. We have been investigating alternative pencils — different tools, methods and modes that support students to become active writers. This helps us ensure that every student has a way to participate in writing, whether they communicate through handwriting, typing, symbols, AAC, drawing or other tools.

It has been wonderful to see our Secondary students learning, creating, communicating and participating across so many different experiences this term. We look forward to continuing this learning and building on their successes in Term 4.

Senior Secondary:

It's been another very busy and successful term for the senior secondary section and their work in the Victorian Pathways Certificate.

Together, they have headed up many projects, including the organising and running of the Fathers Day/ Special Persons stall, food bank, and a micro-business of making and delivering playdough to the school community.

As well as this, graduating students were able to visit potential post-school providers ahead of their final year/years of school. This was a valuable experience which gave students the opportunity to contextualise what their careers after school might look like.

Students also took part in work experience through local provider Pinchapoo.

Looking ahead to term 4, we're excited to be partnering with Ability Inclusive Resources who will be bring their coffee van onsite. Students in the senior secondary section will get the opportunity to learn barista and front of house skills in a supportive environment. We're excited! (and also, coffee!)
