JSA Curriculum Day

Our Curriculum Day is being held today.

Whilst our teachers are mid-way through Semester 1 Reporting, the key focus is to support all education support staff to revisit and explore the importance of implementing our ASD-specific practices to support our students' transitions schoolwide. These transitions include, but not limited to arriving at school, planning new activities, planning to finish activities, moving from location to location and more. As you can imagine, we need a common understanding and approach for our staff across all classrooms so that all students are supported at their level.

Attitudes to School Survey

The Department of Education has mandated that all schools must participate in annual student, parent and staff opinion surveys to generate data for School Performance, as follows:

In valuing student voice as a means to improving student engagementwellbeing and quality instruction, we conduct this survey to find out what our students inherently think of your school.

This survey:

  • is conducted annually in Term 2
  • for all students in Years 4 to 12 are invited to participate.
  • has differentiated versions of the survey provided for year level groups and for students with cognitive impairment
  • schools facilitate collection with students during school time
  • Comprises of 21 questions in full
  • The assessment window will be available to staff from Friday 22nd May - Friday 12 June.

SAtSS Short Scale Version #2

  • suitable for students with a recognised cognitive impairment
  • Reduced language
  • Responses that are supported with matching visuals
  • Responses comprise of only a 3-point scale

Tier 2 Student Groups

The school recently welcomed new staff members to the Therapy Team, including Occupational Therapist Michelle Tucker and Speech Therapist Imogen Harbourd. These appointments have strengthened the school’s capacity to provide targeted therapeutic supports for students.

As a result, Tier 2 Therapy Programs have recommenced, including:

  • a Social Skills Group focused on developing communication, interaction, and participation skills
  • the Fussy Eaters Program, supporting students to build confidence and engagement with eating and mealtime routines

These targeted interventions are designed to support student wellbeing, engagement, communication, and participation across the school environment.

Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff and school community.
