Principal's Report

It has been another busy and exciting fortnight across our school, with plenty happening both in and out of the classroom.
New Signs Installed
Our new school signs have now been installed and they are looking fantastic. The updated signage helps create a fresh, modern and welcoming first impression for visitors and reflects the pride we have in our school. It has been wonderful to hear so many positive comments from families and community members, and we are excited to continue enhancing our learning environments across both campuses.
Learning from a Real-Life Community Hero
Students at our Warburton East Campus recently enjoyed a special visit from a parent who serves as a police officer in the Northern Territory. Students were fascinated to hear about life in remote communities, the important role police play in keeping communities safe, and some of the unique experiences that come with living and working in a very different part of Australia. We sincerely thank her for taking the time to share her experiences and answer our students' many questions.
Upcoming Curriculum Day
As part of our ongoing commitment to improving student outcomes, staff will participate in a Curriculum Day on Monday, 15 June. This dedicated time allows teachers and education support staff to step away from their usual routines and focus on strengthening teaching and learning across the school. Working alongside our Curriculum Leader, Grace Barnard, staff will continue refining curriculum planning, analysing student learning data and ensuring consistent approaches are in place across both campuses. These opportunities for collaboration are invaluable and help ensure every student receives the highest quality education possible.
School Photos - Next Week
A reminder that School Photos will be taking place on Wednesday, 10 June. We look forward to capturing another year of memories for our students. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Reconciliation Week
From 27 May to 3 June, Millwarra Primary School celebrated National Reconciliation Week through a range of meaningful learning experiences. Students completed a variety of activities throughout the week, with some making lemon myrtle and wattleseed shortbread and others participating in craft activities. These experiences provided opportunities to learn about and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures while reflecting on the importance of reconciliation, respect and connection.
Bike Education
Our Bike Education program has been a tremendous success this term, with another two students learning to ride a bike this week. This achievement is a testament to the fantastic program run by Mr Bruder and Julie, as well as the persistence and determination shown by our students. It was wonderful to witness not only the excitement and pride of the students who reached this milestone, but also the support from their peers, who cheered them on every step of the way. These moments highlight the positive and encouraging culture we are proud to foster at Millwarra Primary School.
Semester One Report Comments
We will be providing student achievement reports for Semester One this year as usual.
The reports will be distributed on Friday, 26 June.
The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments will not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.
We will, of course, be pleased to discuss your child's progress with you at our next Parent-Teacher Interviews, scheduled for Monday, 20 July at Warburton East and Wednesday, 22 July at Millgrove. Please check Compass to book an appropriate interview time with your child's teacher. As always, you are welcome to contact your child's teacher directly at any time
School Disco Returns for 2026!
The countdown is on for our School Disco on Friday, 19 June! This much-loved event is always a great opportunity for students to have fun, dance the night away and spend time with friends outside of the classroom. We are looking forward to another fantastic evening and thank our staff and volunteers who help make events like this possible. Please check Compass for further details and booking information.
Trivia Night
A huge thank you to our wonderful Fundraising and Event Planning Committee for the work they are doing behind the scenes to organise our upcoming Trivia Night. Events like these take a great deal of planning and preparation, and we are incredibly grateful for the time, energy and enthusiasm our volunteers continue to contribute to our school community. We are looking forward to what promises to be a fantastic evening of fun, laughter and friendly competition while raising valuable funds to support our students and school. Be sure to check out the flyer in this newsletter and book your table now so you don't miss out!
School Tours
We continue to welcome enrolment enquiries from families looking for a supportive and engaging learning environment for their child. Tours of both campuses are available throughout the year and provide an excellent opportunity to see our school in action, learn about our programs and meet our dedicated staff. If you know of any families considering their schooling options, we encourage them to contact the school office for further information or to arrange a visit.
As we head into the long weekend, I hope all of our students, families and staff enjoy the opportunity to relax, recharge and spend time with family and friends.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns or feedback, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Melanie Hancock
Principal
