PERFORMING ARTS

Performing Arts in Term 2
In Foundation students have looked at drama and focused on the elements of facial expression, body movement and voice alteration. Students have been experimenting with becoming different characters, improvising short stories and learned to express ideas through action. They have been enjoying some free roleplaying and dressing up as different characters.
In Years 1 and 2 students have been exploring the expressive and performance skills required to act. Students learned how to embody a character, by changing their facial expressions, moving their body and using the stage. They have loved learning how to improvise and work in small groups to create short scenes/ mime.
In Years 3 and 4 students have been participating in activities that develop their use of voice, facial expression and body movement. They used these skills to create characters and perform short scenes. Through collaborative tasks and small group work, students have developed confidence, creativity and teamwork skills.
In Years 5 and 6 students have been participating in improvisation, role-play and scripted scene activities that developed their use of voice, facial expression, movement and character. Students have been working collaboratively to plan, create, rehearse and perform short scenes for their peers.
In Year 5/6 Performing Arts Club, Mrs. Andrews has been working with a group of 18 students to learn a hip hop/jazz dance. The students have been collaborating on the dance sequences, taking on feedback and rehearsing every week. We are excited to hopefully perform at assembly in Term 3 and also showcase the hard work these students have been putting in at the Celebration of Arts night in Term 4.
Let’s hear from some of the 5/6 dancers-
Sienna-Beth 5/6D- "Everyone is included in the 5/6 dance, has a say and enjoys it!"
Tory 5/6F- "It’s very different being in a dance class during your free time. It boosts your confidence a lot!"
Emily 5/6F- "I love how everyone gets a say, we all collaborate and help decide the dance movements."
Indiana 5/6F- "Everyone joins in, dances as a team and has fun!"
Charlotte 5/6D- "I like how everybody joins in, we have made new friends and we all get along."
Matilda 5/6F- "It has been so fun doing this with my friends and I have loved the song and choreography!"
